Topic Title: medical checks?

I'm curious, how many of you have had blood tests or CT scans/MRI's before being given a diagnosis?
Have you found that because of a history of anxiety/depression, doctors will then relate ALL of your illnesses to this instead of sending you for tests?

I am willing to bet that patients with HMO coverage are sent for tests much less than those with PPO or those who self pay. The most amazing thing to me is that 'chemical imbalance' is the most widely claimed cause for anxiety/depression, yet no one on the planet can confirm this with actual tests.
Isn't it just easier for everyone if we just prescribe you some Prozac?

I was given all heart and lung tests and all was fine. My doctor said normally there is no real testing for Anxiety Disorder, they just rule everything else out regarding the symptons of chest pains. If I request a certain test, my doctor will send me to get it done, I have no problem there.

The symptoms that led me to antidepressants was fatigue and hair loss. I was certain my thyroid levels were low. After one blood test, it came back normal. My doc said I was depressed and was given a perscription for Effexor. No other tests were ordered. That was almost two years ago. I've been Effexor free for one year. Been taking 5-HTP for almost one year and SJW for about one month also.
