Topic Title: anxiety attacks

Hello everyone. Does anyone know if SJW is good to take to reduce anxiety and anxiety attacks. I work as a Police Officer and the things that I have to see are really hard to deal with. This, I believe, is what brought about my anxiety. How long does it take for SJW to start making a difference? Is it a herb that you should take as needed? EX.) I have a panic attack, then I take one? Or is it a herb that I should use every day to see a difference. I really hope that this works because I love my job and I love helping others and I don't want to ruin that. The brand that I have just started taking today is Solaray. It has KAVA KAVA 200 mg. and St. John's Wort 200 mg. Thanks to all who respond. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Umm, personally I'd say that SJW is not helpful for panic attacks or anxiety, but it could be different for different people. The most helpful thing I've tried is calcium carbonate, which I took when my panic attacks first began and it seemed to help, although it might have just been psychological. I've tried valerium too, but it didn't really affect me. SJW has helped with my depression but not anxiety.Good luck.

Hello, St. Johns works best if you stay with it. It is slow to start working and needs to build up in your system to do its best. I found this out through reading books, and my own experience. The scientific studies from Germany that are used as the standard for dosing suggest 900 mg a day. I also found that to be the best dose. I have anxiety attacks too. My life is very stressful. My daughter is a paramedic and I am raising my grandaughter. St. Johns started to calm me about a week into it. After 2 weeks I was sleeping better. But I didn't get the full effect of it until about 8 weeks of taking 900 mg a day.
Look on the internet for Dr. Hyla Cass's web site. She has written 2 execellent books on Kava Kava and St. Johns. Dr. Ray Shalien (not sure of his spelling) is also considered an expert on these 2 herbs.
St. Johns has saved me from all the fearful thoughts I used to have. I hope it works for you too.
