Topic Title: Flora brand of SJW (canada)

I am using a brand called Flora, which was the high end brand at the local health food store (Canadian). It has only been a few weeks but seems to be working great. After reading various postings on this board I ordered perika on-line but have not tried it yet. I was wondering if anyone else has tried Flora and what you thought of it compared to Perika or others?? Thanks

Hi Saly: I actually just started taking that brand a little over two weeks ago based on a recommendation of an employee of the health food store I do all my shopping at. It seems that that person takes this brand herself. I decided to try it because of the olive oil formulation, I thought it sounded a little gentler on the stomach than the capsules with the powdered extract, in addition of probably being a more "traditional" way of preparing herbs. I was going to wait a few weeks before posting how I am feeling on SJW (I only used it once before, not this brand though, about 5 years ago). I think I will stick with it if it works well. I am only a little confused about the dosage: it says 430 mg on the bottle (without any indication of how much standardized hypericin/hiperforin). That's the only thing that made me a little suspicious as to its efficacy. It also says to take 3 - 5 a day, which is more than the 900mg normally recommended on other labels. I have been taking 3 in the morning and just added 1 in the evening. I didn't want to take more in the evening since I am still taking 50mg of 5-HTP in the evening and don't know whether it's safe to take both together. As I said before, it's probably too early to see the full effect, but I do feel better. I might increase it to 2 in the evening, I don't know yet. It seems like I have always been invaded by a feeling of gloom, despair, fear, first thing when I wake up. It tends to lessen if I am having a reasonably good day as the morning progresses.
How much and at what times of the day do you take the Flora SJW? I think I am getting it at a reasonable price through this store in Victoria (they have a very good website, fast delivery, good phone and e-mail manners, and all their products are cheaper than in other stores). I don't really want to write their name here, it might not be "ethical". I don't think, though, that they sell Perika or some of the other products and brands mentioned on the forum. Thanks!

Hi there - I am taking it at night only and I take two, so approx. 900 mg, about an hour before bed. That seems to be the recommended daily dosage. I started to take it randomly during the day but after reading many testimonials switched to night time and it seems to be making a really big difference in my mood and anxiety. I am wondering if you are taking a little too much? I am sure I was at first and found it much more effective when I cut back and moved it to the evening. Hope this helps :)

Hi Saly: Thank you for your helpful reply. I reduced the Flora SJW to 2 a night and 50 mg of 5-HTP. Results were o.k. although not earth-shattering for a while, until last week when I had new situations to face, and new routines and schedules to adjust to. One night/early morning last week I felt absolutely awful, worse than I have felt in months. I ended up taking 2 or 3 doses of Valerian to get me back on track. Are you still on the Flora? Have you ever taken SJW with 5-HTP or something else to curb the anxiety? I am not sure at this point if I should increase/decrease either one or both, or to take them separately. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

If you are in canada try (New Chapters SC27) From www.aviva.ca
It is 10%hyperforin
You can compare that to these other brands.
