Hello... WOW, I wished I had found this message board over a year ago! I am a proud mother of 4..three beautiful older girls and a new baby boy!! Prior to this last pregnancy I had been dx with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder)and after the doctors and psych. offering me the persription meds (Paxil, wich I did not tollerate well at all, and Buspar which took forever to find the correct dosage)they asked me to try Zoloft....but by this time I had been imearsed in research since I have always preferred any natural alternative if possible!! I found Micheal Murray's book on 5HTP and weaned myself off the others....I took the 5HTP for three years (100mg total per day...50mg am-50mg pm)with awesome results...made me drowsy at first then my body adjusted..and NO OTHER side effects!! LOVED IT!!! When I found out I was pregnant my doctors advised me to stop it as soon as possible...and I could find no studies, I assume because there are none, that would let me know the safety or concerns of taking it while pregnant. so, I stopped....that was a mistake....but I was lucky and the horemones took over and I have been fine through the pregnancy and after. Post partum has been much better than I had expected...I have my days of depression/anxiety but the weight that flew on as soon as I had stopped the 5HTP was awful. I am now 6months pp and weigh as much as I did 6months regnant, and I crave foods constantly. I am very aware of the chemical reactions and the good exercise can do (in the past I have even made an exercise video for post-pregnancy)....What I need to know is how many of you have breastfed while taking 5HTP...I know this will help me over the edge and jump-start me as well. I am just concerned about the effects on my nursing son! Thanks in advance to all who respond!

Hi Mateos,
Well this is not an area of expertise for me (being a guy, not married and no kids) but there have been a few discussions about breastfeeding on the forum. I can recommend using the search engine here, which uses Google but only searches this site, and see what you come up with. I just did a quick search and it came up with 10 hits... Google does a pretty good job of indexing this site. You might find some of the search results are just alternate views of the same message, but all-in-all you should hopefully find some useful information.
Hope your baby is doing well. I'd like to get married and have kids one day too. :)
Kelly
