i got put on this a few weeks ago,and was taking 225 mg a day.i am going crazy.i was on zoloft but it only worked to a certain degree then they put me on effexor xr.i am 21 years old.they didn t tell me anything about this and i never heard of it.so i took it [mandatory..i was locked up]and as as i started to take it i knew this drug was no good from the beginnig.so i did my research and found out i was right.the doctors must have forgot to tell me about the withdrawls.this pill is so cruel.i have been off for 5 days now.ifeel cold.i have read people try to get off of this and do not succedd.but that inspired me to quit and quit cold turkey.i am well disciplened.i just want to know how long before this stuff is totally out of my body.6 weeks?2 months?i can not fing the answer, which makes what i am doing much harder.this effexor xr should be an illegal drug,it has the same with drawl effects as cocaine or herion.and they call it an antideppressant.i did not have not one with drawl symptom when i got off prozac and zoloft.if i wanted to be druged up i would smoke crack and shoot herion.i urged all of you to raise up and get off this crap.or you will for ever be a prisoner to this nightmare drug hell.

i am also on effexor xr and i know the withdrawl id terrible, i experienced it too. i totally agree that doctors should warn you about it, but it really isn't that common for people to experience such painful withdrawl (i've talk to many psychiatrists and read up on it, all sources agreed that most often there is minimal with drawl). however, quitting cold turkey (on ANY medication), especially while on such a high dosage, is the worst thing you can do. and not talking to a doctor--a professionsl who knows much more about the drug than you can learn by researching it and has worked with it with other patients in the past---is even worse if not just plain stupid (i don't mean to insult you, but come on, think about what you're doing to yourself). i hope that you can find a way to get through this, you REALLY should go to your doctor, or find a new one who knows what he/she is doing. you have all of my blessings.

Hi, I was put on Effexor too and it nearly ruined my life. It has to be the worst drug on the market, the side effects are unbearable. Get off it, it may take a few days but you will feel better. I promise. I also thought I was going crazy, it's that drug. Warn people and complain to your doctor. It's poison. Go through the web and search the drug and you will come accross some very disturbing info on this drug. Get the word out about this awful stuff.

Effexor is the worst! I was able to get off it by going on full dose (for me) Prozac for a few weeks and then tapering off the Prozac. Good luck.

Hi,
I just came across your post for the first time. How are you doing now? Are you seeing a doctor? I know how hard it can be to be clinically depressed and given meds without much input on side effects etc. I believe most doctors are much more concerned about alleviating the extreme depression and or anxiety etc. initially.
Since you are 21 you have every right to see differing doctors and get their input on your particular case and to discuss differing treatments. You are the one to make the final decision. I am sorry you have had to go through so much. My bouts with depression started in my teens but didn't worsen until I was in my mid 20s.
If you haven't, read the forums here carefully and perhaps you will find an option to prescribed drugs. It is difficult at best to wean oneself from prescribed meds to supplements/herbs.
Sometimes tho' we have to accept we need prescribed meds, but there are many out there that are not horribly addicting. I am not familiar with the one you quit, but I also am on klonopin and that is really addicting tho I have come down from the use "as needed" to just one a day. It is best to slowly lower the dosage over a period of time than cold turkey. I hope you are doing well.
