Topic Title: Natural Nutrition - Australia

Hi!
I'm taking 3 tablets of these a day:
Natural Nutrition Hypericum 2000 + L-Tyrosine (made by Bullivants in Australia). It says each tablet contains:
Hypericum equivalent to dry herb 2000 MG standardised to contain: Hypericin 666 MCG Hyperforin 6.7 MG
I think they're having an excellent effect but can anyone tell me if this is the "correct" standardised dosage if I take 3 a day????

Hmm. Yes they are standard 3/day tablets. The marker contents are a bit on the low side -- 0.2% hypericin and 2% hyperforin. I know for a fact that Bullivant has a stronger SJW extract in some of their other lines, but if it's working well enough for you, then stick with it!

Hi Epyx, I am on 50mg of Zoloft a day and am looking for a natural alternative to depression and anxiety. What are these tablets that you a talking about here and do you think they would be strong enough? What dose would you recommend and where can I purchase these tablets? Any ideas on Sam-e? Thank you, Regards, Tracy

Tracy, there are three main herbal anti-depressant treatments: SJW (St John's Wort), 5-HTP and SAM-e.
SJW is usually the first choice for a number of reasons (price, availability, consistency, research etc). If you're in Australia, I'd recommend trying the Herron brand in the supermarket (or Blackmores if you can't find Herron -- they use the same supplier for this product). The usual dose is 3 tablets per day.
A lot of people on this forum have had success with 5-HTP but it's not possible to obtain this in Australia. You have to purchase it by mail order from the US.
SAM-e is starting to get known here but it's quite expensive and less is known about its clinical efficacy.
Have a talk to your doctor too about how to taper your Zoloft course. They may suggest clearing the Zoloft out of your system first before trying something else.
