"SAMe question" , Thu 3 Feb 07:02

Hello,

I am thinking about trying SAMe. I have mild depression stemming from chronic back pain and read that SAMe has positive effects on inflammation as well as depression. I do not want to take SJW since I take birth control pills daily.

My question is this: I take a daily multivitamin (One a Day Women's formula) and a Glucosamine/Condroiten supplement. My multivitamin does contain B vitamins but I don't know if that is good enough. Do I need to take additional B vitamins in addition to these if I take SAMe? Would anyone reccomend any additional supplements?

Many thanks!
Amanda

I went to a website www.healingdaily.com and it has the amounts of each B vitamin you should take with SAM-e. Hope this helps.

I think that site provides some good info. The direct link is : http://www.healingdaily.com/conditions/sam-e-1.htm . A quick look suggests that taking 100% to 200% of Folic, B6 and B12 can be beneficial. If you go any higher than this, sometimes called "B-loading", you might want to mention it to your doctor, as high dose B vitamins could have some mild to moderate side effects.

B vitamins (B9 and B12) help to support the methylation function of SAM-e and also help to deplete homocysteine, a toxic chemical that has been linked to depression.

Best Wishes,

Rod
