"SAM-e side effects?" , Wed 26 Jan 14:02

I tried taking SAM-e a few weeks ago but it made me feel very spaced out. I decided to try it again at lower dose. I took 200mg on empty tummy first thing in the morning. I noticed it made me feel very nervous and edgy. 5-htp makes me sleepy but otherwise is agreeable.

I would like to give SAM-e a fair shot as I have heard great things about it. How long does it take for your body to adjust to it?

Is there anything I should take with it to lessen the side-effects?

I do take multi-vit-mins, B12 and folic acid.

any help would be much appreciated

I tried Sam-E several years ago and found it made me crabby. It did not seem to work. I also tried a cheap brand of SJW back several years ago made by Walmart. It did not work at all. Always go with the best known products out there. Kelly lists the top 3 brands of SJW in the early pages of this site. I recommend Perika as it has worked for me and has been consistent. It has a standardized content of Hyperforin and Hypericum.

thanks for your reply

I tried SJW years ago and it did nothing for me.
I like 5-htp but it does make me sleepy if I take it during the day. I am trying very small doses throughout the day this week and it seems to be working for me.

I can take the SAM-e in very low doses 200mg but I must eat within an hour or I feel wired.

So I am experimenting and I think my body is adjusting.

I am wondering if I should try SJW again.
