Topic Title: Weird feeling in head...
| | "Weird feeling in head..." , Wed 15 Mar 20:22
Hi all,
I've been taking Clarocet ERT for the last six days to alleviate some minor depression/anxiety/mood swings. So far the results have been great - I am much more confident and happy which is good. As of today however, I've started getting a weird feeling inside my head... it feels slightly like a band put around my brain with very light tension... there is no pain just a sensation of something being there. I suspect it's something to do with the SJW or 5-HTP in the Clarocet. If anyone has any idea what this feeling is and whether it passes in time could they please let me know.
Thanks, Wilson.

Hi, I think I know what you are experiencing.
I have what you described and it generally happens as a warning sign that I need to slow down. I was told by a Dr that is was a symptom of stress and that the muscles in my head were tightening as I tensed my shoulders & jaw!!!
I dont know if you can swallow this explanation - but I sort of do. I do tense up when I am stressed / anxious and now I am aware of it I check myself periodically and try to relax.
Hope this helps! Oh it does go when I no longer have moderate depression / anxiety just as quickly as it appears.

What do you mean by the muscles in your head..? Externally or internally (if there are even muscles inside your head)..? My feeling is definately internal and feels as though my brain has a small amount of pressure on it (see previous post). It has only come on this week as a result of taking Clarocet (SJW, 5-HTP).

I was told that there is a muscle inside the head that holds the brain. This tightens up & spasms with stress & anxiety and causes the feeling of pressure being on the brain. I am no biologist but I believed the GP.
I would guess (and hope) that SJW would eventually take this pressure away as the anxiety / depression lifts. I do not understand why your has just come on since taking Clarocet. Are you feeling more anxious or stressed?

No, I'm not feeling more anxious or stressed at all - the oppositve in fact. I have taken MDMA a few years ago and the feeling inside my head now feels somewhat similar to the feeling you get when your brain is "activated" by MDMA. I am thinking that this feeling I'm getting is due to increased seretonin levels in my brain caused by the 5-HTP and SJW in Clarocet...

Hi Wilson:
I started taking SJW five days ago, and since then have developed a feeling on my forehead similar to yours: like a band wrapped tightly around, but with no pain. Before taking SJW I never experienced this sensation. I may be wrong, but I seem more aware of the feeling when facing direct sunlight, then I forget about it/stop feeling it when indoors. ... Emotionally I feel better than I have for months, so it's working, but a mystery. :)

Hi Ananda,
Glad to hear that someone else experiences the same thing :) I think it must be a transient feeling because it seems to be subsiding somewhat as I get used to the dose. What are you taking SJW for (depression, anxiety)? How are you feeling now?
Cheers, Wilson.

Hi Wilson,
I started taking SJW specifically for depression, which I've been battling on and off since I was about six. I'm 24 now, and for about the past six months I've been unable to feel excitement or true happiness over anything, which is definitely not my "usual" state -- I am quite an enthusiastic person. :) I would be writing lists of all the wonderful things in my life, and trying to figure out why I had absolutely no positive feelings about them. Also in the past six months I began drinking quite heavily, a form of self-medication I suppose. Last week I was suddenly quite, quite sick of crying at work, so I bought a bottle of Natural Factors SJW and resolved to take it for at least a month, and to quit drinking for the same length of time to give it a proper chance.
I had read that it takes about a month for SJW to take effect, but after two days I was no longer crying at work. I was smiling at my co-workers and actually chatting with them honestly, as opposed to a kind of mask-like small-talk I had been using before. I came home from work after the second day and actually felt calm enough to make dinner, which is something I've been unable to do. I looked at my boyfriend and wanted to go out and DO something, instead of sitting at home feeling sad.
I have been taking SJW and abstaining from alcohol for a week now and my mood has improved in a way that seems impossible. It may be a combination of the above two factors; I'm not entirely sure. The only ill effect I've experienced (aside from the band I mentioned earlier, which has since disappeared) is a bit of fatigue in the evening, but if that is a trade-off for feeling calm, optimistic, and peaceful, it is well worth it!

omg, that is so weird....I assumed the "band feeling" was just a tension headache that I've had for about 5 days. I didn't even think about the sjw!!
Kelly, thank you sooo much for this web site.
Wilson, is the "band" feeling pretty much gone now?

Hi Deities,
Yes, the band feeling as pretty much gone now. It probably took about four or five days to go away. I think the feeling was caused by the Clarocet I began taking two weeks ago. It must have taken a couple of weeks to adjust to taking this new treatment. Everything is fine now :)
How long have you been taking SJW..? Did the band feeling begin when you started taking it..?
Cheers, Wilson.

the band feeling started right when i stopped taking Effexor and started on sjw (6 days ago)....not sure which of the two caused it. The feeling has definately decreased and was pretty much gone today.

I experienced that 'band' feeling, too! It feels like a light pressure across the center of my forehead. It doesn't hurt, doesn't really bother me...its just there. Besides, compared to how I feel other-wise, I'll live with the band on my forehead!!!
Actually, every day it gets less noticable. Not sure if I am just becoming accustomed to it, or if its subsiding.
Other than not being able to really REST when I slept, that is the only 'negative' side effect I encounted. The positive effects FAR out-weigh the negative in my case!
