Hi,
I'm new to this site, although not new to taking SJW.
I was diagnosed with clinical depression in Spring of last year and was recommended anti-depressants about 1 minute later. Having had suffered panic attacts for 2 months lading up to this diagnosis i had done some online research and had read up on anti-depressants. I was scared and horrified at the thought of being put on them and instantly refused.
I found SJW at the local health food shop and decided to give it a go. I took 1 tablet of 150mg strength three times a day and had done since April last year, although i was recommended by (another) doctor that i should think about coming off them as they normally recommend any patients coming off anti-depressants after 6 months.
I stopped taking them for about 2 weeks but have over the last couple of days began feeling myself "slipping" back, so i have taken more today.
In a long winded way, my question is; am i taking enough and does it matter that i have been taking them for nearly a year? And should i take a break from them?
I would really appreciate it if some one could get back to me, as i want to do what's right for my body - but i really can't face going back to that dark place again.

The 'norm' dose is actually 3 x 300mg tablets per day, so you could possibly increase your current doseage if you so wish.
With some people (myself included) the effects of SJW can fade over time. With me it took two years.....after which no amount of upping the dose did any good. (I was on 1,800mg per day at one point!)
It's a difficult decision to come off something that's working, though, and I can understand people staying on it indefinitely (like I tried to do.)
This, however, does not seem to be your immediate concern. I would continue on your SJW treatment and, if necessary, increase the doseage to 900mg per day if you feel you need to.

Hiya jed,
I have read a few posts on here with individuals taking sjw for years and them being fine, if you read backpages on here there is a minefield of information.
I have had prescription antidepressants and was on them for years and I really don't blame you for not taking them so readily, I wish I had thought a little wiser before taking the prescription but at the time it was all I could think of doing. I recently felt that dark place again and went to see my gp who again offered me that dreaded prescription and this time after weaning myself off them and the sleeping tablets I actually refused. I have only been taking sjw for a few days now and I'm not sure how its going but I'm hopeful.
Maybe you should read some of the other past posts as they have lots of information in them, I hope your okay and that you sort things out.

Want to say thank you for the replies - you've no idea how much comfort it brings to know there are good people out there who understand and care enough to reply.
I have upped my dosage by one or two pills a day - not the normal amount still, but i think i'll give it a go and see how i get on.

Very sensible.....it's always a good idea when increaseing or reducing the dosage to do it gradually and see how you get on.
