Rhodiola Rosea is indigenous to the Arctic and Alpine regions of Europe, Asia and America and has long been used as a tonic by many cultures, including the Ancient Greeks. Rhodiola is generally known as an "adaptogen", a term which refers to any agent possessing the ability to increase the body's capacity to adapt to stressful conditions. This standardized extract of min. 3% Total Rosavins and min. 1% Salidrosides is the highest potency of Rhodiola Rosea available.

I use Rhodiola and it works for me. I only use it occassionaly, when I feel like I need an extra boost, and the SJW isn't doing it for me. I've heard/read if you use it continuously for months, the effects stop, so that's why I use it only for my worst times. I use Nature's Plus, one tablet of 250 mg. I just recently started it up again, after not using it since Aug. 2004. The first two days, I didn't feel anything, but the third day, I felt calmer, and not bothered by things. The fourth day, I got a headache, which I normally do if I use it two days in a row. I can get by taking one tablet every other day. But, since I was feeling better, and not wanting to over do it, I took 600 mg. SJW the next day, and then Rhodiola the next, and alternated like that for a week. Now I'm just on the SJW, but if I feel myself dipping, I'll take the Rhodiola one day as needed.....I don't think I've Ever read of others alternating like I did, and I would not advise taking them together on the same day! I feel like I'm very tuned to my body, and have used both Rhodiola and SJW before, and know how I'm affected by both, and could get by with what I did for a week.
Also, do a site search, it was talked about a lot on this site a few years ago.

Hi, I tried two different brands of Rhodiola Rosea, Gaia Herbs and Nature's Way.I was taking it for anxiety. To be honest,it didn't do anything for me so I wouldn't recommend it. But that's only my experience.

It may help with depression (lethargy, emotional blunting, lack of drive etc) as it is a stimulant basically, so may elevate anxiety a little bit in some users.

Hi there: I know there are conflicting opinions about Rhodiola, but it has worked very well for me. It has taken care of the fatigue and lack of energy I had been feeling. I have been on it (150 mg/day about half hour before breakfast; occasionally another dose before lunch) for about six months. Once in a while I try taking a 2 or 3 day break because of the experience of some people that it stops working. I haven't noticed anything like that, but there is a reduction in energy levels when I miss a few doses. I was also taking SJW for about 4 months, but somehow had a sense that the Rhodiola was working better for me. I stopped the SJW about two months ago, and have been taking 100mg 5HTP (50mg in the morning/50mg in the evening). This combination seems to work well for energy, mood and anxiety (my anxiety levels were quite bad over the summer months last year). Sometimes I feel as though I could be having a few hours or a day of "mini-mania" (never really have had manic states as such, so don't know what they feel like). But the flip side doesn't really come after, or maybe just as a small reduction in mood and energy levels. I do hope that the Rhodiola continues to work. I do plan to continue taking it, since I feel a lot better on it than before.
