Does anyone know if St. John's Wort can cause low blood pressure? I read that low blood pressure can cause fainting. I fainted twice while I was on this herb. I have been on sjw off and on within the last year and just made the connection that both times when I fainted I was taking it. I stopped taking it the first time because I was having skin tingling. I decided to go back on it and try a a smaller dosage.
When I fainted more than half a year ago I went to the doctor and was given some tests. He said there was nothing wrong with my health.

When i was taking SJW i was feeling faint at times. It is a known side effect (i think) - i got some tingling in my hands and arms suggesting lower blood pressure. I agree that lowering your dosage perhaps and increasing it slowly to allow your body to adapt to the herb will help. As far as i am aware many side effects seem to take effect over the first 2-4 weeks whilst the body is becoming adapted.
Also which brand are/did you take, I had some trouble with the UK Holland and Barrat brand and have ordered some from Healthspan to try.

It was 300mg of the Now brand from the US taken before I go to sleep, but when I fainted before it was a different brand and I was taking 900mg a day.
Other factors could have been involved like not drinking enough water that day and having a diet very low in salt, but the SJW might have something to do with it. I searched the web and there is lots of mixed info regarding the SJW and blood pressure.
Fainting is very scary. It is very disappointing. I will have to stop taking it because of the possibility that it might be the SJW. The possibility of me fainting again is making me too nervous to drive my car.
This is a big let down. I will have to try something else I guess. I can't afford doctors or medication. Plus my individual health insurance doesn't pay for mental health because my depression and anxiety is pre-existing condition.
