Topic Title: St Johns Wort with Valerian
| | "St Johns Wort with Valerian" , Tue 21 Feb 17:36
It has been almost a week since I have been taking sjw. I am thinking about combining SJW with Valerian for anxiety. Is this a good idea? Also, I take my whole SJW dose in the morning. So should I take 3 pills of SJW with 2 pills of Valerian at the same time? Any Suggestions? Thanks

Interesting conversation with pixybell about valerian. Sounds like a good option to me. I think I'll try that too. I can get access to it in liquid form (when I visit the "Big City" and their nifty organic co-op).
Just wanted to put in about my experience with 5-htp: Hated it!
I've got manic-depressive tendencies that are mostly on the depressive side; but gotta be carefull about taking meds that might cause mania. I don't normally have social anxiety, but while on anti-depressants I've gotten so anxious, that it became social anxiety and panic disorder. I've never had that when not taking meds. But - when not taking meds I'm listless and ambivalent, which is not a fun way to live life either...
I took one single 5-htp and it gave me such intense jitters, anxiety, and, yes, bitchiness; that I resolved to never take it again.
I say. Try it and see. Tune yourself into the results and decide for yourself!
Good luck!

Hiya,
I took valarian in liquid form for a number of weeks it really aids sleeping, it relaxes you and really allows you to have a restful sleep. I'm not sure about taking it in the day you may feel really drowsy, however I suspect that if you take smaller doses it would help to calm your anxiety. Hope this works for you.

Hey thanks for the info. Do you think I should take it in pill form? Also, if I take it in the night, will it help with my anxiety during the day? Also, I'm still debating whether to take valerian or 5-htp for anxiety. Which one is better for anxiety in combination with sjw?

Hiya,
I'm afraid I'm not sure about the SJW as I don't take it I take 5htp and I have stopped the valerian I take it only when I'm having a bad few days. I would take the valerian at night and see what happens see how you feel, it there is no improvement then switch back. It helped me relax, it didn't induce sleep as I had been on sleeping pills for years but it really helped relax me which is hard for me as I don't know how to switch off. You are always best asking your health food shop or maybe someone on here could give you some guidance about taking them all together I would just be careful you don't over do it. I also take a multi vitamin called a superone that has all I need and more.
As for pill form the liquid is more potent than the pill but whatever works for you, I hope your feeling a bit better, takecare pixy xx

Thanks I just might give it a try. But do/did you have any problems with social anxiety? If you did, do you think 5-htp would help with it better than valerian? Also, if I take valerian in the night, will it help me with my SAD during the day?

Hiya,
I didn't have any social anxiety issues, I use valarian just to relax me and to try and help me sleep. I have a problem with being able to switch off, I can be really dead on my feet but just can't sleep. After many anti-depressants for depression and years of sleeping tablets I have decided enoughs enough and I am trying this herbal route. I can't tell you if it will help or not but for me it did help relax me only with everything though its potency wears off and your body gets used to it. I guess my years of strong medication haven't helped but I'm hopeful.
I hope it works for you, takecare xx

Hey thanks for the reply. Im glad valerian is working for you. Its been exactly 1 week since I have been takin SJW and I've felt much better today with my anxiety. I think I'll wait 1 more week to see if sjw helps me more with my anxiety. If not, I'll just try valerian. Thanks.
