Topic Title: still dizzy/fatigued after 5 wks swj..normal?

I have been taking SWJ, Natural Factors brand (.03% hypericin, 3%hyperforin, 300mg caplets) for about 5 weeks now. (I began taking it for two reasons - 1) I have always had a higher tendency than the average person towards a low mood, however this escalated and turned more serious over pretty much all of 2005 and 2) regardless of mood, always have insomnia, which severely impacts my life.) The SWJ has "fixed" the problems listed above (yeah!) but the side effects are serious and are not going away. I am constantly dizzy during most of the day, can't concentrate, my head feels heavy, I feel lethargic, and sleep more than usual. My work is suffering significantly. The worst part is that these effects are being felt based on only 1 30mg pill taken at lunch. What I would like to know is, has anyone experienced these effects for this long on such a little dose, and did it eventually go away? getting ready to quit... any help appreciated, thanks (background info: started taking 2 pills / day for 1st 2 weeks, then increased to 3 / day for one week, and have reduced to 1/day for the last two weeks to lessen the side effects as per above).

I started SJW about five days ago, and I seem to feel like I have a headache...like I'm having a blood pressure issue..It last 24 hrs a day. Not mean, just pressure.. I do two in the a.m. then one at night with some food. That's all I have to respond to you..and I'm surprised I do not see any other responses. I also have noticed that people are not really writing anything subtle or astute about improvements with SJW. Just feeling better, etc. Hoping to find some sophisticated entries....Andre in S.F.

thanks for your response. Yes, the headache is also somewhat present with the other side-effects also. I have started taking one at night, as per suggestions on this site, and that seems to be helping (either that, or the alcohol consumed over NYE is just masking the symptoms:)) You mentioned that no one really seemed to have specific improvements. I have definitely noticed an improvement in my ability to fall asleep at night, and definitely in mood also.. though not sure how much if any of this is "placebo" effect. The only thing is... despite the improvements.. if I continue to feel lightheaded / lethargic throughout the day there is no way I will be able to continue. So hoping anyone else out there has had experience of these side effects lasting this long then fading (completely or otherwise)!

I started taking SJW about 7 days ago. I'm taking it for panic attacks. I am only taking one 300mg capsule a day. I wanted to ease into it.
I am feeling very tired everyday; wanting to sleep all the time. Also I've developed headache, blurred vision, etc. Feels like my head is kinda stuffy, dizzy..... And the vision part, well, the focus is not sharp on the edges.... Not sure how long I'm gonna be taking this thing.
Hope this helps a bit.

First off - I don't want to recommend you stay on anything that messes you up.
Secondly - I think the vision distortion is a common side-effect of many meds. I believe that Wellbutrin (an antidepressant) had a similar effect on me. This isn't a prob for you, but birth control pills mess up vision, too.
I wanted to let you know that so that you understand that taking a prescription med might do the same thing. I don't understand it... but seems to be a comment effect. Maybe tea with bilberry will help?
Can't help you with the fatigue issue - I luckily have the opposite response from SJW. Good luck! Please continue posting because I'm curious if you experience any changes with the vision issue.
