I was diagnosed with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) about two months ago. I am depressed at times and have very slight feeling that I might get a panic attack or an overwhelming feeling – I would take a deep breath or two and it usually goes away. I was put on Paxil, those had some side effect after about 3 weeks, stopped it immediately, that had some problems. Now I am off any medication. My research on the net and with a councilor/therapist, has led me to believe that if you can find the source of your depression/anxiety disorder and deal with it, you can recover fully without medication. There is the possibility that if you don’t deal with the source of the problem, it will return.
There are other lifestyle changes that I had to make, such as, excising regularly (help the body produce chemical that enhances relaxation), and drinking lots of water (help flush out the extra hormone in the body). I also have a slight tingling feeling in my arms at times; my doctor told me it is my nerves are acting up, probably from all the stress. I need to take some vitamins and supplements. He told me that recovery will take from 3 months upwards.
He has also prescribed SJW to be used, but I am hesitant to use any antidepressant - For the fear of becoming addictive to them or from having withdrawal syndrome.
I am very high strung on recovering from my disorder. I will do anything outside of using antidepressant. I hope long term that this will work for me. I am hanging in there.
What seem to work wonders for me is talking about my problem, my feelings and the emotions that I am going through.
Would you believe that as I am writing this I am feeling better and happier – strange?
I don’t know if anyone out there has any experiences like me, who have recovered using this method?
I would really like to hear you stories, and advices.
