Topic Title: SJW and headaches

I am looking into taking SJW for depression. This board has been a very helpful source of information -- thanks to you all.
I have some concerns about side effects, and I am pleased to discover that they seem to be pretty mild for most people on SJW. But several people have mentioned headaches especially when starting the drug -- a complaint that I hear can also1 be a problem with some folks who take SSRIs. But perhaps fluctuating seraton levels are not the cause of the headaches? The following is just a thought:
On this website (http://www.kcweb.com/herb/stjohn.htm) the article mentioned that tannins are one of the many components in SJW. It is well-known that tannins cause headaches in a segment of the population. The "red wine headache" that some people get after a single glass of red wine is an example. Or coffee. Could the tannins in a cheaper ground-up plant supplement be culprit here? Has anyone ever looked into that angle? I tried searching this message board and I didn't come up with any messages about that.
Moreover, would the tannins be retained in a higher-quality alcohol extraction preparation? I'm no chemist, so I couldn't say. But if they are not, perhaps those experiencing headaches could try a better brand?
Anyway, I plan to start taking SJW after Thanksgiving and I'll see how it goes.

I don't know whether tannins have anything to do with side effects or not, or whether fluctuation in serotonin may play a role. I have had mild headaches (and other side effects) as an initial side effect of any brand I've taken, including both those thought of as research grade and other. In my case the headaches disappeared within a couple of days or so.
