I have just come off fluxotine (cold turkey) after six years. i have been of them for three months now and at first felt great. i am 47 and understand that at this time of life one has hot flushes but i was convinced that the tablets were doing it. however now i feel crap and so fed up . i am back where i started six years ago ... do you think its my age or not taking the tablets. i understand it takes three month to get into the system so must take three month to get out and if it does , well i know about it now. doyou think i should get back on them or not.

Is fluxotine an anti-depressant like Prozac? The generic name for Prozac is fluoxetine.
I got off Prozac 4 weeks ago, and I am having horrible symptoms. Took it 13 years and went off cold turkey. Don't know if it's withdrawal from fluoxetine (Prozac) or not but it's very bad. I was fine at first and then it has become increasingly bad over the 4 weeks.
Is that what you are talking about?

Hey, sorry you guys are feeling bad after stopping the fluoxetine (prozac).
I took prozac in the past with success for about 2 years, and tried some other SSRIs as well.
You guys should consider the following: Prozac (fluoxetine - same thing generic name) has the longest half-life of the SSRIs. This is a good thing in terms of coming off of Prozac...since it has a lesser chance of major withdrawals of any of the SSRIS (the others have much shorter half-lives). However, you still would possibly experience withdrawals from stopping it cold turkey. I am still so suprised that people under a doctors care end up going off cold turkey...it is well known to be problematic.
When I stopped fluoxetine I was taking 60mgs. I then went to 40mgs for 2 weeks. 20mgs for 2 weeks. 10 mgs for 2 weeks. then 5mgs for 2 weeks.
I am really not trying to sound preachy here...but you don't want to stop any drug you have been on for such a long time cold turkey...unless something major is going on like a lethal alergic reaction.
I have heard too many bad stories of people feeling horrible stoping these drugs cold turkey..and either having withdrawal effects or worsening depression. It is of course possible that the return of the depression is simply due to not having a drug that your body really needed to feel good. Prozac certainly helped me and after I weened off it I felt worse.
Not knowing what doses you guys were on...I would just say it wouldn't be a bad idea to start taking a small dose and taper off for a bit. For example, if you were taking 20mg then you might take 5-10mg a day for a few weeks and see if you feel any better.
Anyway, hope you feel better soon...let us know how it goes.
Cheers
