Topic Title: amoryn?

Just came accross this doing depression search. Any thoughts? Valid...or just trying to sell their product?
"Unfortunately, few St. John's wort products contain a standardized amount of hyperforin. You never know what you're getting when you buy a SJW product off the shelf. While some brands contain enough hyperforin to improve mood, most contain little or none. In fact, a recent study tested eight brands sold in the United States and found that only two contained more than 1% hyperforin. In other words, high-quality SJW extracts are proven to be an effective treatment for depression and anxiety, but most SJW products on the market are virtually worthless because they contain very little hyperforin. This fact motivated the scientists at BioNeurix Corporation to develop AMORYN.
AMORYN contains the highest quality St. John's wort extract in the world, standardized to 5% hyperforin. AMORYN's pharmaceutical-grade SJW extract is the same one prescribed in Europe for depression and used by researchers in clinical trials. Each dose (two capsules) of "potency assured" AMORYN contains 45mg of hyperforin (from 900mg of Saint John's wort extract), so you can be sure that you're receiving the optimal amount."

Brands of sjw standardized for hyperforin are generally available only in health stores and online. Most brands available at the supermarkets, discount stores etc. are standardized for hypercin only, or not standardized at all.
Perika, HBC Protocols, Kira are some of the brands which have been mentioned on this forum which are standardized for hyperforin and hypercin -- there are others as well. The brands I mentioned each use research grade extracts, a minimum of 3% hyperforin in the case of Perika and HBC. The bottle of HBC I have now claims a minimum of 4%. I'm not sure of Kira's percentage. Amoryn is not unique in using a research grade extract, but it is unique in that it is a formulation of a combination of herbs and supplements -- not pure sjw. Pure sjw, standardized for 3 to 5% hyperforin (not sure on the exact percent), has been shown effective in various research. Amoryn's extract's hyperforin content would be on the high end assuming the hyperforin has been stabilized so that it will not degrade.
I'm not sure which extract is the "best." Kira uses LI 160, Perika WS 5572 (same as German WS 5570), HBC Indena. There seems to be a difference in individual preference, but one may not be best for all. Amoryn may use one of these same extracts -- can't tell from the information presented here.
Some people find sjw standardized for hypercin only works well for them, so I don't think you can categorically state those brands are "virtually worthless."
Read the labels and stick with reputable sources of which Amoryn, as far as I know, is one. I prefer the flexibility of supplementing pure sjw on my own because if I'm taking a combination product I have no way of knowing what part of it may or may not be working for me, but that's a personal preference.

Thanks so much for the detailed info. I have been using an inexpensive store brand, and am seeing little to no results. Money in my household is very tight right now, and I'm forced to cut corners anywhere I can. But, I guess it makes sense to shell out more $$ before completely throwing in the towel on SJW. Am just hooping that the higher grade will make a difference. No guarantees, I know...
Any recommendations on good online source from which to purchase sjw standardized for hyperforin?

I have been using Amoryn for almost 6 months now, and I will order another 6 month supply. It has worked wonders for me. I have never tried the other products mentioned, but have heard good things about those also.
