Hello everyone. I'm so glad I found this site. I'm 20, and have been having pretty bad anxiety and a tiny bit of depression for about a year and a half now... I really would like to try a natural alternative before getting all mixed up with the prescription drugs.
My question is about the dosage. For two days, I've been doing the 3 pills of 300 mg per day... But I bought Target brand pills, and the bottle says 2 pills, three times daily. Thats 1800 mg! So, I'm wondering if I should start off with that and lessen my dosage later, or start out with the 900mg/day and take more if needed.
Also, I'm taking Centrum pills once a day, and wanted to make sure everything will interact fine. haha, the ingrediants list is at http://www.centrum.com/products/labeling_chew.asp .

Check to see the percent of hypercin in the capsules you have. In brands standardized to .3% hypercin the standard daily dose is 2.7mg hypercin (that is .003 x 900mg). If the brand you have is standardized to .15% hypercin that would explain why you might have to take twice as many 300mg capsules to get the daily recommended 2.7mg hypercin.
In any case it may be smart to start at the lower dose and work up to the full dose, as tolerated and/or needed, to minimize potential side effects. If this brand is standardized to .3% hypercin, six 300mg capsules per day sounds high.

the bottle says "St Johns Wort contains the active ingredient, Hypercin. This formula is standardized to contain .3% extract per serving of Hypercin to insure and active level of consistency."
so, if the serving is 2 capsules, than that means i take 2 capsules, 3 times daily. Right?

Hi,
I also had anxiety and mild depression prob, when I started taking them 4 wks ago. I also believe that my religious beliefs helped me through it along with SJW.
I started off taking the spring valley walmart brand 6 pills total because each one contained 150mg. But when I called the company to find out what the difference was btwn this and the 300mg pill. There was an additional ingredient on there and more of a quality guarantee for the 300mg pill than for 150mg, see if there is a free phone number for your pills also and check with them. Because all that I have read so far recommend 300mg 3X daily so 900mg in total sometimes up to 4 for some people. For the centrum I take that daily along with SJW and there are no interactions, its just vitamins, that you would otherwise get from your daily food.
