"Questions about what to take--LONG!" , Mon 26 Sep 07:58

Hello. I am so happy to have found this board. I am looking for some natural remedies for some of my problems. I have actually been diagnosed with having ADD, anxiety and depression (not severe). I think I may be a bit more depressed as I lost my mother in July, my grandmother in August and live close to the area affected by Hurricane Katrina and now Rita. I am also a law student and a homeschool mother of two. I was prescribed Adderrall and Lexapro, however, I didn't really like the side affects of either. I have just ordered Perika and Rhodoila. I am wondering if that is a good combination. I have no energy or motivation and am also very easily distracted and forget things often. Please any advice on what might work for me would be greatly appreciated.

Also, my 5 year old daughter has also been diagnosed ADHD. She is REALLY hyperactive and has basically NO level of concentration. Her doctor prescribed Ritalin for her because she started to have a lot of accidents from being overly hyper, but I don't want to give it to her if I can find something natural. I have heard of FOCUS for kids. Does anyone know of anything natural we could try for her. I actually gave her a couple of doses of Ritalin. Her doctor prescribe 1/2 teaspoon but it did NOTHING for her. The only thing that calmed her a little was 1 teaspoon and I'm afraid that amount will soon need to be increased. She also has trouble sleeping.

Please help

Hello: Welcome! I won't comment on your first half of the question, because I just restarted the SJW about 6 weeks ago and have not taken Rhodiola on a regular basis. About your daughter. I have a 4 year old son. He hasn't been diagnosed with ADD, but has a moderate language delay and used to have stretched out tantrums just about every day. He still gets them when he is overly tired, but we have noticed a considerable improvement since I started giving him a fish oil supplement called "Learning Factors" by the brand Natural Factors (I live in Canada, so I don't know if the same brand is available in the US). It tastes awful (it does come in capsule form too, but he is not old enough to swallow these), but he is brave about it, takes his chocolate milk after and then I give him his chewable kid's vitamins which he likes. When the bottle is empty I might try to find some other fish oil supplement formulated for kids that might taste better, although I am sure they can only mask the "fishy" taste up to a point. My younger one doesn't want anything to do with it, but then he's never had the same degree of tantrum throwing. My older boy just started a special preschool program to address his speech issues. The adult-child ratio is very good (8 children to one teacher, one teaching assistant and one speech language pathologist). He actually loves it, even the ride in the school bus. I was a little worried, because he didn't care too much for the daycare he used to attend two days a week. Of course we had to go through our doctor and various agencies and specialists before determining that he qualified for the funding. But hopefully it will help his start in school go more smoothly. I admire your patience and organizational skills in homeschooling your kids! I surely could not do it. I don't agree with some things in the educational system, as I am sure many of us don't, but there are also some good teachers and programs. Maybe these are some suggestions that might work for your child. I don't have any authority in the matter, but as a parent I would probably also first try other things before giving Ritalin to a developing brain. Good luck!
