Topic Title: Want to switch from effexor to sjw, any tips
| | "HELP! want to switch from effexor to sjw" , Mon 19 Sep 04:54:
I have tried loads of antidepressants over the years, to no avail, including tri-cyclics (which worked the best) MAOI's, SSRI's and SNRI's. My GP and Psych wont prescribe tri-cyclic's anymore and I really haven't had much success with any of the others. I really want to try sjw but I know my psych will flip. I know I have to taper effexor very slowly because of the discontinuation syndrome, which I have experienced severly from switching over from other meds. The reason I'm so annoyed is because most docs don't believe this actually happens. They all seem to say it's just your depression and anxiety returning, but I never had numb lips, arms, legs, electric shocks and brain shivers and body tingles before I started taking this crap. The only thing that keeps me sane is Valium which I try to keep to a minium because I know how addictive it is!!! HELP, any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated. Frustrated aussie who just saw a natropath for the first time in years, why did I wait so long?????????????????

Tell your doctor to go suck a cock.
Dont waste your money on drugs and doctors it is a pyramid scam and you only get the raw end of the deal. Doctors and drug companys get rich from confused people not knowing why they pay money for nothing.

Hello all!!
I recently was placed on Effexor. This med states you can not take SJW. I have not experienced any of your symptons with Effexor so far. My doctor said that the 37.5 mg is not addicting and you can stop it anytime. I welcome any comments. Thanks, Bubbles

hey bubbles, I only received those symptoms when I stopped taking effexor. Not while I was on it. It's called discontinuation syndrome and it's awful. I'm only on crumbs now and I'm still having problems. It doesn't matter what dose you are on but check out this forum. Google "psychobabble" and check out the boards pertaining to psychobabble and another board called withdrawal. I think you might find it interesting to see what alot of different people from all around the world have to say about stopping this drug. Good luck, Paul

You might ask your naturopath if you could add a small amount of sjw as you decrease the effexor. I'm not certain this would help, but it might.

I had a friend who experienced similar side effects while on and tapering off of Effexor. She said that it worked well for her and reduced her social anxiety, but that she sometimes felt in a complete daze, day dreaming, having wierd thoughts and tingling.
I agree with Fmckay... Talking to a qualified professional is your best bet. I wouldn't stop the effexor cold turkey, but maybe reducing your dose slowly (very slowly) while supplementing SJW may help. You should probably be under the supervision of a doc if you do this.
If you are worried about anxiety returning during withdrawal, you might look at Valerian Root to help reduce stress and nervous behaviors. Kava is also effective for anxiety, moreso than even SJW and Valerian. It is also one of the few herbs that has been studied to help relieve withdrawal symptoms associated with prescription drugs. There is a specific study that was done during Benzo withdrawal but I was unable to locate anything similar for Effexor.
Do a search for the following on google and click the first link if you are interested:
"Efficacy of kava-kava in the treatment of non-psychotic anxiety, following pretreatment with benzodiazepines." study by Malsch U, Kieser M.
Best of luck!
Rod

just read that link rod, thankyou!! I don't think that you can get kava here over the counter anymore, so I'll have to wait for my natropath to get back from his holidays. Living so close to the southern pacific islands, kava got abused quite badly because everyone knows what effect it has in large doses

are you in Canada?
You know what is weird, i recently read that the country of Germany is not going to ban Kava anymore!
I find it funny, because Canada and many other countries have banned it as a result of those german studies.
