Anybody tried SJW along with Tyrosine? I`m on my 11th day of taking SJW and waiting for the effect to kick in. Meantime I bought some Tyrosine to help me with energy and focus but I`m not sure what to expect from the combination. I just read they shouldn`t be taken together although there is no evidence they interact. I would appreciate any advice. Dania

Where did you read that they shouldn't be mixed together? I have been using tyrosine since about Feb. this year, and have just restarted SJW Sept. 1st. So far, no problems.

Hi mmf, There is a comment at http://www.all-natural.com/hyp-1.html
``Even if you do not have high blood pressure, do not take St. John's Wort with amino acid supplements (especially phenylalanine and tyrosine). Amino acids are a form of monoamines, which can pose a danger when mixed with St. John's Wort. The monoamines that you get in your diet (such as the amino acids in meat) are less concentrated and are not a hazard.``
and another one at http://wellnessadvocate.com/?cat=welltrients&ctr=view_wdetail&welltrients_id=10229 ``It is also advisable to avoid tyramine containing foods, alcoholic beverages, and medications lime tyrosine, narcotics, amphetamines, and over-the-counter cold and flu remedies while taking St. John's Wort. `` So you used them together just for 2 weeks now? Did you feel the benefits of Tyrosine? Dania

Hummmm............I go to the doctor Tuesday, and I will have them check my blood pressure.......I've felt fine. I take an amino acid blend with 1000 mgs of 23 aminos, and 500 extra tyrosine, since Feb. I think it has given me more energy, even if my mood has been low. The SJW has been improving my mood.
Ps. I read both articles.....when I was taking SJW a couple years ago, I ate a lot of the foods containing tyramine that is recommended you don't eat. I never had any bad interactions. I even took some of the cold medications with the warning on the box when I was taking SJW and had no ill effects. I used to tell my husband, "well, I'm taking this cold med with the warning on the side...so if anything happens, tell the doctors"....but I was always fine. In the first article it says that studies done in the 1990's have shown that the MAO like effect of SJW is negligible when used in normal doses......and then it goes on to give all the warnings, which seems contradictory. Four years ago I'm positive that Kira used to have a MAO warning on it. I looked at my box that I have just purchased, and there is nothing about MAO problems on there. Sooooo......I'm not going to worry about it tooo much I guess.

Went to the doc yesterday for a general checkup. My blood pressure was fine. Felt like my allergies were kicking in this weekend, so one afternoon took 60 mg of sudafed, didn't feel any change in my stuffiness, so that evening took another 60 mgs sudafed, and my SJW. THAT sent me......I was up till 2 am. getting stuff done, and when I tried to sleep, I just laid there with my eyes wide open for hours.....my heart was pounding, lying there trying to sleep. Sudafed usually doesn't bother me tooooo much, but I think mixed with the SJW, it was more intense. So, I have to watch out mixing the sudafed and SJW. I haven't had that kind of a reaction mixing the tyrosine and SJW. Everyone is different, and I think you just have to be aware of how things are affecting YOU.
