Hi: I also have issues with low energy. I am planning to try Rhodiola in the next little while. I have tried L-Tyrosine as one of the readers suggested, but had to stop it after a month because I developed muscle pain, it got so bad that I had a hard time going up stairs. I also take 5-HTP, so I don't know if it was just my system not tolerating the Tyrosine, or if it was the combo of both.

You have lots of company with this one. I have found Perika helps with this to some extent, but not consistently. I did a search on this forum once on low energy or motivation, can't remember which, and several people recommended taking sjw as a nighttime dose as opposed to spread throughout the day. I also take Ginkgo Biloba, and I think that might help some -- not sure. Low energy is a classic symptom of depression. I'm currently experimenting with gradually moving my sjw dosage to night, and it has definitely seemed to help, but have not yet reached the point where I am taking the entire dose at night. Plan to try that over the next week. Caffeine, which you are taking, might give a quick short term boost, but if depression is the cause of the low energy it probably won't help much long term.

Hi,
You should be very careful with the caffeine.Long term ingestion of high doses of caffeine can literally lead to a heart attack. Your post made me think of this doctor/ biochemist whatever, Ted Broer. My mom has this guy's tapes and he was saying how he had a heart attack from drinking too much coffee back when he was in college ( I think it was 12 or 16 cups a day). I remember he was saying that you have to slowly break your caffeine addiction by gradually reducing your intake. He says caffeine is not the solution for energy but a healthy lifestile of eating right and exercising. It's kind of scary that you are ingesting that much caffeine, and like you said it's not helping.
Anyway hope this helps, heart atack is not a very bright perspective.
Peace

robbiemerril and fMackay, thanks so much for your replys. Something else for me to worry about, heart attacks !!! and something else to try and give up. i've tried the sjw at night it gave me mad, bad dreams. Oh well maybe i'll just have to reconcile myself to being a lazy cow for the duration. lol,
much love J.

I really wish I had an answer for you. I have been through this and know having no or low energy is a huge handicap. Have you ruled out thyroid conditions, anemia etc. I agree with robbiemerril on tapering off the caffeine.

A vitamin b-complex might help, as some of the b vitamins are supposed to boost neurotransmitter function. A well balanced diet definitely helps. Exercise helps if you can get to that point -- difficult or impossible sometimes. Sometimes it helps to give yourself a vacation if only for a few hours. Forget about everything that is not done and take a few minutes to do something nice for yourself.

Make a "to do" list, and if you have some good times try to accomplish whatever you can and cross it off that list. Knowing I've accomplished even the most minimal thing helps.

Wish you well.

Hi, thanks for your advice, i'm trying a b vitamin complex at the moment and i do try to eat sensibly but being sensible is no fun, and exercise is to much like hard work so im doomed. The vacation sounds like a good idea though. till then i'll just have to keep slogging away. thanks.
Much love J.

You could try Tyrosine an amino acid at about 1 gram or an adaptogen like Rhodiola, both of these are known to help boost energy levels and fight fatigue.

Just try only tyrosine, not a blend of amino acids. That might work better than the mix. Tyrosine has worked well for me, consistantly. Rhodiola gives me a big boost, but I've heard it works well the first week, and then wears out, so I only use it for times I really need a boost of energy, like when I do a week long bike ride( this year: 2 weeks, 850 miles) or hike up into the mountains(Longs Peak, 14,626) for a day long(14 hr) hike. I seem to be this very tired, low energy person who has these crazy desires to do Big Events in the summer......In the winter, I am a complete couch potato.......but this past winter, I found tyrosine to help a lot......

I second the recommendation for diet and vitamins, especially zinc, iron and a B complex. I also take tyrosine and I have great energy now. I cut caffeine completely. It's very hard on your body--totally depletes your adrenal glands. Good luck weaning off! It's not easy but so worth it to feel your own energy and not jitters and anxiety.
