i have not always lived with depression and anxiety, but rather developed it in the past 6 months due to a bad drug overdose. please do not judge me, i have been clean ever since, and i have been living with the consequences everyday. i overdosed on xanax, therefore, no doctor will prescribe anything to me for my anxiety except for zoloft. I wanted to try something on my own, instead of being handed a prescription from the doctor, and that is when i heard about sjw. I began taking it today, and i am only taking the amount directed (900mg), but i was curious if you can take more and what is a dose that most people feel comfortable with? today is the first day and i know that i can't expect to feel better already, but i just want myself back, and would like to hear some success stories or any advice someone would be willing to give.

Hi Danielle,
First of all make sure that you are using a good brand of SJW like Perika or Kira for example. Because the supplement industry is unregulated there is a lot of junk out there and you never know if you're gonna get what it says on the label.
As far as the dosage I encourage you to do some research. I saw someone saying in a post that the people who are prescribed SJW in Germany(where it is taken on prescription from a doc) take double doses from what we take here and that person was right. There have been new clinical studies made that have found SJW to be more effective than Paxil and Prozac. Actually it was the hyperforin in SJW and this is another thing to look at, the concentration of hyperforin in the brand you are using. 300 mg three times a day is way too low of a dose according to these new studies. If the brand contains 3% hyperforin then you get 27mg hyperforin a day, which is half of what they used in those studies....Anyway I could write here for a long time, and the articles are online, do some research :-) and make an informed decision.
Peace
