"Withdrawl from Seroxat" , Sun 24 Jul 02:07

hello, new here, I tapered down off Seroxat over a few months and eventually stopped taking it about 3 weeks ago. I'm now taking SJW 600mg per day, I know I can take it up to 900mg per day but I thought as I had been taking a reduced dose of Seroxat for a while that the 600mg would be enough. I'm also taking Evening Primrose Oil, multi-vitamins and Zinc.

I'm still feeling really up and down mood wise. Getting very muddled and really dwelling on things over much. Not sure what to do. I have had quite a lot of withdrawl from Seroxat but I thought I was over the worst and now I'm not sure if this is withdrawl or me getting back to my prior to seroxat state. Although I have read that (and been told by my doc) that it can take about six week to get fully out of your system.

Any ideas anyone? Thought maybe should up the dose of SJW to 900mg. Should I take something else as well? Really don't want to take prescription drugs anymore been on and off seroxat for five years, tried to stop before and never quite made it. Suffer from anxiety as well as depression and feel like theres a thin sheet of paper between me and the conditions at the moment, really would rather they stayed the other side of the paper.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Paroxetine withdrawal is considered to be the most difficult among the SSRIs. The discontinuation syndrome can last anywhere between a few minutes and many months (rare though, please don't let this frighten you). I recently started SJW myself, after weaning (too quickly I might add) off Celexa. I'm closing in on four weeks and my mood is really picking up. I take 900mgs/day at bedtime.

Like any SSRI, it may take 4-6 weeks before SJW becomes therapeutic, so don't give up.

I also wanted to add that Evening Primrose *may* not be the best choice for mood support on its own, since it provides GLA (gamma linoleic acid), which arguably is the best Omega 6 fatty acid, but nowhere near as useful as an Omega 3. Specifically, EPA seems to be responsible for mood support. GLA does seem to have a role though, and it's included in some of the pharmaceutical-grade EPA products for mood (i.e VegEPA). Some would still argue that Omega 6's are detrimental overall... but it's still open for debate. A good bet, in any case, would be to add roughly 1g of EPA.

Here are some links: http://www.aor.ca/proddetail.asp?prod_id=299&exec_sum=summ (this site is perhaps a little biased since it sells an EPA product, but all of these are real studies, I have checked)

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply, I was really pleased with what you wrote, firstly that it could still be withdrawl and SJW may not have kicked in yet, but also because I was reading a book today called 'Optimum Nutrition for the Mind' by Patrick Holford, the section I was reading was about Omega 3 and EPA. I'm a vegetarian so possibly would get the Omega 3 from seeds but the best foods for EPA & DHA are virtually completely missing from my diet, I think I'll up the amount of Omega 3 high foods I eat and will look in our local health food shop for some EPA supplement (which seems to be well found in fish etc which I don't eat) as perhaps my body isn't turning the Omega 3 into EPA or I'm just not eating enough. They might even do a vegetarian version, which would be great.

I'll also up the SJW to 900mg, I've had no adverse effects from taking it so I see no reason not too.

The link to the website was good too, it echoed what I've been reading.

Thanks for your suggestions and support.

Claire
