Topic Title: herbal industry unregulated...hmmm

Hey all, I keep hearing that the herbal industry is unregulated, then the question pops in my mind...what is preventing these people from selling us placebo and labeling it as: The best St John's Wort in the world 20% hyperforin(I'm exagerating of course)? Seriously, what's preventing these people from selling us junk if nobody out there is regulating them? Sure they claim a lot of things on their websites but who is out there to check up on them?

Nothing, and there's plenty of supplements and herbs out there that are completely worthless. However the companys that have a quality product are going to get more repeat customers so they have an incentive to make their product good. Most people won't keep buying something if it doesn't help them, but they will come back to buy more if it is helping them. There is also a site called consumerlabs.com that tests supplements to see if they really have what's on the label.
