Topic Title: New section for social anxiety?
| | "New section for social anxiety?" , Wed 13 Jul 17:18
Hey everyone, This is a great forum full of really good and very useful info, I have been reading for hours...congrats to Kelly for starting and maintaining this. I had a suggestion, Kelly maybe you could add a new section called "Social anxiety" or something like that. Those of us who suffer with it have to look all through the forum for speciffic information pertaining to it and it would be very helpful and much easier to find useful info if we had our own section to share and find information on, just a thought... Anyway the forum is great as it is...great job! Peace

I totally agree with you. I wish there was more information to people who do suffer from social anxiety. Because I am one of those people. Thankx for bringing it up.

Yeah and I noticed that a lot of people that post here suffer with it too so it would be nice if we had our own section, this is a good forum. I got some good results with Kava Kava, I posted about it in the Brands section. Also ROBO got some really good results by taking Colostrum and now I am trying it too. Right now I am trying Amoryn but I won't say anything until I have been taking it for six weeks. Are you on SJW right now? Have you had any results with anything yet? If you want to know more one good book that I would totally recommend to anybody looking to know more about s.a.d. would be "Overcoming Social Anxiety and Shyness" by Gillian Butler, A Self Help Guide Using Cognitive Behavioral Techniques. I read a few books on this topic and this one is by far one of the best books I have ever read on s.a.d. It also teaches you how to do CBT and it goes very deep explaining things. Anyway, hope this helps.

thankx for the tip. I'll look in to it. NO, I haven't tryed sjw. You see im one of those people who are cucious about medication or even "natural" meds. I Just heard about sjw a week ago. Im thinking of taking it,but i dont know, im looking in to getting counseling. Never did that either. But I have suffered enough with social anxiety. Im in my 20's now and im ready to find something that will help me so i can live a life were i dont worry no more.

Hey grl, I read quite a few books on social anxiety and they say that there are very few counselors out there who actually know how to treat social anxiety. I had my bad experience with a counselor that was just TOTALLY CLUELESS, he was specializing in temperament therapy and had no clue whatsoever about s.a.d., but he was more than willing to keep taking my money... luckily I called it quits, left him with an injured ego too :-)(not sorry about that). I have read that counseling is a total waste of time and money unless you are dealing with a specialist in s.a.d. or at least in anxiety disorders, and I agree. It's sad but there are a lot of therapists out there that will be more than happy to take your money even if they don't have a clue how to treat you. It's a good thing to be cautious, be as cautious about counselors as you are about medication. Counseling costs a lot of money and I personally didn't get anything out of it but a lighter wallet. Just be informed... Make sure that you talk first to the counselor that you are considering and ask them if they treat social anxiety and what techniques they are using. CBT (which you can also learn to do from books, lots cheaper ;-) is the only therapy that has yielded great results for s.a.d, I have read of no other. It also works great on depression. Anyway good luck and we all hope to hear a good report. Peace

Hi everyone,
I'm planning a major upgrade to the site sometime in late summer... if everything goes well on my end. Along with that will be a new and much improved forum, which will allow me to create new areas without editing code with a text editor. :) So stay tuned.
Kelly
