| | "Hyperforin/Hypericin differences?" , Sun 26 Jun 22:20:
Hi,
First I'd like to thank Kelly and everyone else who contributes to this little community about St. John's Wort! Now I have questions regarding the differences between hyperforin and hypericin...
According to biopsychiatry.com, hyperforin is a ''potent uptake inhibitor of serotonin (5-HT), dopamine (DA), noradrenaline (NA), GABA and L-Glutamate with IC50 values of about 0.05-0.10 microg/ml (5-HT, NA, DA, GABA) and about 0.5 microg/ml (L-glutamate) in synaptosomal preparations''. This leads me to believe this is the important ingredient.
However, elsewhere in this website, it is stated that a study was conducted to test the efficacy of hypericin on OCD (which produced very positive results, btw!). I've heard some people say that one of the compounds is activating and the other is sedating...
Basically, I'm really confused! What's the difference between these two compounds and should I avoid one? Grrr.. My product, from ''Herbal factors'', has standardized 0.3% hypericin, and 3% hyperforin, for each 300 mg capsule.
Any help would be appreciated!
