Topic Title: Problems with higher doses ?
| | "Problems with higher doses ?" , Mon 6 Jun 01:15
I've just had an evaluation with a psychiatrist before starting psychotherapy (Cognative Behaviour Therapy) - I'm "officially" mildly depressed.
The psychiatrist also recommended I increase my SJW from 900 to 1,800mg - I now take 2 one-a-day pills, 1 in the morning and 1 at night.
I got caught in the sun on Friday and boy ! do I look red now !
Any thoughts on this higher dose or combating the redness ?

<any thoughts on this higher dose or combatting the redness?>
Slap on the factor 15?
I've recently gone back to work after 3 months off with stress / depression and my doctor advised increasing the dose to 1800mg per day. (I have been taking 900mg for a couple of years). In the end I seem to have settled on 1200mg and propose to keep on this level for another six months or so.
Personally, I don't see a problem with taking 1800mg with perhaps the long-term aim to bring the doseage down over time.
Sheeps.

I'm currently taking 1800mg Perika per day with good effect, but my problem is mostly anxiety not depression. For this reason, I've heard here that standardized extracts of hypericin are better for anxiety,so I may try another brand.Anyway,I don't stay out in the sun too long unless it's necessary,so the only thing I could suggest is a good high SPF sunscreen and light clothing bearing a minimum of skin exposure.By the way, what brand are you taking?

I'm in the UK and I'm taking Boots, One a Day own brand. Looking at the leaflet, I've spotted Kira's name at the bottom, so I guess they manufacture the pills for Boots.
I certainly feel more focused, more myself on this double dose. I am getting some heart palpitations and may be a bit photo sensitive. However, with the hlep of SJW and Cognitive Behavious Therapy I hope to get over this depression.

Hi DR,
If SJW is giving you heart palpitations (it does the same for me), you might want to try reducing your coffee/cola/chocoate/other caffeine intake and see if that helps.
I have tried going off coffee completely several times and the eventual results have always been disastrous, but now I only take a very small amount and this has reduced my SJW heart palpitations a lot.
I used to drink a level TABLEspoon of strong instant coffee powder each morning (and occasionally another in the afternoon). Now I have only 1/2 TEAspoon in just a dash of water and a dash of milk. This is enough to keep my brain from going bezerk and yet the heart palpitations are much less.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice on the coffee - it seems obvious now :)
I have been feeling like I have tunnel vision over the last couple of days so I've decided to cut back my dose.
However, I've gone out and bought exactly the same one-a-day pills I've been taking - confusing 300mg (900ug) for 300ug ! D'oh !
