Topic Title: Advice Needed
| | "Advice Needed" , Sun 29 May 09:36:
I have anxiety and depression. I recently started taking St. John's Wort (hypericin/hyperforin blend) and it kind of gave me a feeling similar to caffeine, which is not good for my anxiety.
What I want to know is, is this just an initial reaction or a permanent reaction? I don't want to discontinue use unnecessarily/prematurely.
Thanks

Treat anything that happens during anything less than a month as a temporary effect.
Continue using SJW for at least 6 weeks before making any judgement.

Ok, but can I take something (like valerian, etc.) to offset that feeling?

I would recommend L-Theanine, any brand that contains SunTheanine. Calms you right down without any drowsiness. In fact it makes you more alert.

I discovered the same, I also used to suffer from anxiety and depression. Have been alright for about 7 years. Came of seroxat (similar to paxil) last february and felt fine. Beginning of May I had some problems at work and decided to start taking SJW as a support. After two weeks of taking the Kira brand (I took 3 tablets a day) I felt all of the depression symptoms coming back (mostly anxiety). It felt like the time I upped the dosage of Seroxat on my own, had the same symptoms. So I stopped a week ago and it has been a rollercoaster ride. Should I have continued anyway? You say L-theanine helps for anxiety? What is that? Please advise.

L-Theanine is an amino acid, which is found naturally in your brain, a precursor to dopamine and GABA, which has a rather noticeable calming effect. However it might not work for someone with *severe* anxiety such as yourself, but it's worth a try as it is not expensive at all.
