I would like to ask for substantial and factual information and testimonies regarding St. John's Wort safety and efficacy as a food supplement. Ive been researching about St. John's Wort and found out that some processing of St. John's Wort could have a MAO (Monoamine Oxidase) inhibiting effect which can ulitmately cause high blood pressure. The reason I would like to know more information about St. John's Wort is because Ive encountered a very promising food supplement (a Mangosteen food supplement) but the supplement has also other herbal and fruit ingredients together with it and one of the herbs included is St. John's Wort (which is I think in lower dosage because the whole dosage of the capsule is 500mg. including all the other ingredients). Any expert in herbal supplement or any biochemist or chemist here who encountered St. John's Wort? And what other side effects St. John's Wort has? Is St. John's Wort safe for type 2 diabetics?
Moreover here is the list of the ingredients of the food supplement I discovered, feel free to comment on their effects and safety..
INGREDIENTS: Mangosteen Bilberry Hawthorne Berry Grapes seed Apple Peppermint Blackberry Cranberry Tarragon Chamomile St. John's Wort Capsule Harrd Shell Gelatin
