"anxiety attacks/hyperventilation" , Thu 19 May 19:55

Hello, came across this site while researching SJW. I have been suffering from anxiety attacks since last august and it comes and goes. There are times when I can go for weeks with no problem and then suddenly that feeling of being on edge starts creeping up on me. So far I have been to the emergency room twice with severe hyperventilation and now when I start feeling the tension in my stomach and tingling sensations in my chest I pop a xanax. It's not often but I hate that feeling of being on edge. My doctor have prescribed zoloft and someone at the hospital prescribed Komadin. I really don't want to take any of this, I did try Zoloft for a couple of months last year but got off of it. I'm trying a herbal tea remedy which worked pretty good for me up until last week. Had a anxiety attack and the onset of hyperventilating and had to take 3 xanaxs last week. Got another batch of tea but it is for only 2 weeks.

Can anyone please give me advice on what to do? How to start an alternative treatment. I have no problems sleeping but am a worry wart and at times moody. But my greatest problem is the tingling sensation, as soon as I feel it I start to get anxious, I'm afraid of hyperventilating again. If anyone can relate to this problem please, any advise is welcome. I think this forum is great, at least I know it's not just me (everyone here tells me I'm losing it and should see a shrink!) Help.

Mindy-
I browsed this site, and you were the only one that really was having the same issues as I. Let me know how you do.

You are not losing it! I have been to the ER 3 times, all anxiety related. The first I thought I was having a heart attack, the second faintness, and the third shortness of breath. Each time, all tests are fine, and the last time it was labelled "hyperventilation syndrome". It's actually pretty embarassing to come to terms with, but I finally asked my doc if this could be anxiety. I experience the exact same things you do along with trouble breathing, faintness, etc. I know how horrible it is and how it can not be explained to someone who has never experienced it. So anyway, I am now taking Zoloft 100mg and Xanax XR 0.5mg. This combination has helped tremendously. I can't say all my anxiety is gone, but it no longer escalates into all out panic. I would say it's worth a try. I used to be ashamed of having to take meds. I'm a nurse and I saw it as a weakness, but it's just not worth suffering through. Good luck.

Hi Mindy,
I also suffer from anxiety and panic attacks.
I have been taking st. johns wart for about a
year and have experenced few panic attacks.
It has greatly improved my quality of life.
If you decide to try st. johns wart be patient
and use a quality brand like perika. check the
brand index in this forum. It may take six weeks
or so to have benefits. You could also try L-theanine
and Inositol. They are helpful for anxiety.
Best of luck. take care

Thanks for your reply. Is there anywhere I can go to find out what medicines can be taken together? and at what dosage?
