Topic Title: Elavil

"Elavil" , Mon 16 May 12:32

Has anyone taken Elavil (Amitriptyline), what was your experience? My doctor has prescribed me this and am afraid to take it due to the long list of side effects. Any information welcome.

I took this several years ago. I found it very sedating, and not helpful with depression which, in my case, leaves me feeling way too tired to begin with -- does not mean this would not help someone else. Other than the sedation, the only effect I recall was dry mouth, which is fairly common with most antidepressant medications. All antidepressants have a myriad of potential side effects. Starting at a very low dose which is increased over a period of weeks is usually advised to minimize them.
