"I no longer asorb my St John's Wort as well" , Mon 9 May 19:46

I had gastric bypass surgery on 8/27/04. I've lost 96 pounds so far and over the months have slowly felt more depressed. I've been on St John's Wort for about 5 or more years now and it has been a miracle for me. Now since my surgery it is not as effective and I have been having bouts of depression. My doctor allowed me to take 4 pills instead of the 3 max due to my enormous size. I took 2 in the morn and 2 in the afternoon and have been depression free for the most part until now despite my smaller size. I do not absorb like I used to and it is not as effective as it was. In desperation I increased my afternoon dose by one since the evening is when I experienced the increased depression. The depression has subsided but I am now very fatigued. Does anyone know of a form that I would absorb better so that I could take a normal dose? My surgeon wants me to see a psychiatrist but I refuse to go back to anti-depresants, had such a horrid experience with them, I just can't ever do that again. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Are you taking SJW in the tablet form? Maybe you should try the liquid form. And you have to remember that when you dropped all that weight your metabolism has changed simply because of that. It may just be that your body needs some time to adjust.

I'm taking the tablet form. I have not seen a liquid form. That might do the trick. Any particular brands that produce quality liquid St John's Wort?
