Topic Title: treat depression w/out meds or supplement!
| | "This might be the answer: EFT!!!" , Tue 3 May 21:27:
I just wanted to bring this website to everyone's attention: emofree.com. There is a free 79 page downloadable booklet that instructs you on how to use this tapping technique called EFT. It also lists all kinds of inspiring case studies. The technique sounds like snake oil, but I started to use is and am noticing improvements in my reactions to situations. Wouldn't it be nice to be free from all this chaos without having to pop this herb and that herb???? I hope this helps. Keep me updated if anyone has success with it.

I was intrigued enough to read much of the website - why dont they say what it is you actually do (even as a summary, not instructions)? Anyway, I cannot believe a word. This sounds as crazy as 'healings' in churches....BUT I will try it. It sounds too fantastic, yet I'm prepared to believe if I see the proof, and I've got plenty of adverse feelings and a bad phobia of heights and spiders to try it on! Will report back...

I have successfully used EFT for several years for different types of things, including anger and other emotions. EFT is being used by practitioners around the world, and has been used quite successfully by some for depression. While it can be quite effective for self-treatment, if you don't get results consider going to a trained practitioner (listed on the www.emofree.com website). Gary Craig, the guy who "discovered" it, is interested in getting it into as many hands as possible, so he gives away lots of info on it and charges as little as possible for the rest. Some studies have been published on its effectiveness for certain things. People who use it are constantly finding new things to try it on, from emotional to physical stuff. Gary's motto is "try it on everything." I am not connected with these people in any way other than that I have bought many of the training materials for self-use and found it to be quite effective. I've successfully used it on myself for anger, sleeplessness, childhood trauma, and feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. I haven't tried it on my depression, because I've found SJW such an effective and easy treatment. Others have, however, and they've documented their findings (you can find more info on the website). Do give it an open-minded look. This is NOT snake-oil.

I see promotions like this and immediately dismiss them. I am really analytical and consider techniques like this so far out that I think they are "snake oil." However, I looked at the the site and tried the technique. Something happened. I'm not grandstanding or trying to sway someone's opinion, but I feel different. I read the case studies and the author's claims and thought that this is just an attempt to talk me into thinking that this will work. I looked at it extremely skeptically, but tried it anyway. I would encourage anyone to give it a shot. My ruminating and overall mood is better today than it has been in a long time.

I'm so glad you feel it may have helped. I thought maybe it was placebo effect because I am skeptical of these things too. For those of us with long term depression and anxiety, I think it is one of those things that will take time to relieve more of the symptoms, but it is nice to feel some sort of immediate result. From what I can tell it's like peeling away the layers of an onion. We have all these little ways our depression manifests itself and as one layer is pulled away, another one is revealed until maybe we can get to the source. Good luck with it, Job, and please keep me updated with your progress. This really sparks my interest.
