Does anyone have and insight or experience with L-tyrosine? I have been on and off of it for about 6 months now. I think it helps my depression and helps me feel more motivated but I can't tell if it makes me more anxious. I have done some research and am finding conflicting info. Sometimes it says tyrosine treats anxiety, but then when I look further, it increases norepinephrine which is an arousal hormone associated with the "fight or flight" response of panic attacks. I don't need anymore panic attacks. Anyone have any insight? Thanks so much.

I tried both the L-tyrosine and the 5-htp, and both made me feel anxious. You're right it's bad enough your feeling depressed, anxiety is the icing on the morbid cake.

Job, I completely agree! It's funny because 5 htp made me anxious too. I though I was the only one. So what do you take to keep your moods under control?
Thanks.

Well, I'm new to this natural treatment thing. I just started the Kira brand three days ago. I tried Prozac once and felt better, then felt completely numb. I'd frankly rather feel a little depressed than numb. I'm not sure, but I think this Kira brand is working a little without side effects. I'll keep you posted.

Good luck with that. I wish SJW would help me but it makes me angry and violent although it lifted the depression quite well. I hope it helps you.

HI, I tried L-Tyrosine briefly and didn't like it, it seemed to make me more anxious (my main problem). The best amino for depression is L-Tryptophan, which is the precursor to Serotonin.

I know that side effect of it sucks. Took some yesterday and felt like I was on speed.
Thanks.

This discussion is a good example of how different our bodies are in responding to supplements! I love L-Tyrosine, it was just what I needed to pick me up. I take about 1500 mgs a day, and feel great. Before, I was just sitting around with no energy to do anything. It really did encrease my energy, with no anxiety. I've tried 5 htp off and on several times, and That seems to make me anxious.

Wow, I know what you mean. Tyrosine seems to be great to get me going sometimes and helps with motivation, but other times it's too stimulating. I wish it worked all the time. I'm glad it has helped you.
