Topic Title: Quitting Smoking

I have just startrd taking SJW for just under 2 weeks now.I don't think it's started to work yet but i hope it will kick in real soon. Here's my problem.I have just found out i will be getting a new landlord and his child is allergic to cigarette smoke. We either smoke outside or move.As moving is out of the question(we can't afford to live anywhere else)and I don't want to spend my life outside,I am seriously considering quitting.I think I will try the patch and maybe one of those fake cigaretts. I have till June 17th. when he takes possesion of the house. Both my b/f and I are heavy smokers.I am suggesting that we quit together.I'm not sure what he's going to do. I have suffered from depression for about 10 yrs. now. After a couple hospitable stays and too many different perscriptions to count I have managed my depression with help from evening primrose oil for about 3 yrs.now.(mine got worse a certain times of the month). I decied to try SJW after dealing with my youngest daughter who is bi-polar and refuses any help(she is 18)and after learning I may have to move several months ago(my home is my secure place)I saw that darkness starting to cover me again I knew I needed something and thought I would try SJW. I quit all illegal self medicating drugs(pot, oil, coke)about 14 yrs.ago and never realy did drink so cigaretts are pretty important to me now(stupid eh). Also I should mention that my present landlords are my parents.I have lived here like it was my own home because I was told it would be some day.Now they have changed their mind and have sold the house.I have put soooo much time, energy, money and love into my home(my safe place)and I cannot lose it. With this new landlord buying the house and"no smoking" I would realy like to quit but with my present emotional state I don't want to push myself any further down that black hole. Any else out there ever try to quit smoking while going through a bad episode of depression?Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I quit 2 years ago from 2 packs a day so here's my advice....
The whole point of using the patch is that you can alleviate the physical symptoms while you work on the mental ones.
Therefore you shouldn't use that fake cigarette thing. Throw out all your cigarettes and ashtrays. Be prepared for feelings of "missing something" all the time - finishing a meal and looking around for your cigarettes and realising that you don't have any etc....
You don't really sound like you want to quit so I don't think it will work for you because you are only doing it because of some condition imposed on you. Just remember that if you smoke a single cigarette you have ruined your entire quit and you are back at day one. Remember that you are a drug addict, and that the first 3 days are going to be very hard. Once you are through those things will get a lot easier.
Do not quit cold turkey, if you smoke 20 a day use the 21mg patch, 10 a day use the 14, less than 10 use the 7mg. A lot of smokers also don't like the vivid dreams that you get with the 24 hour patch so be prepared for those. I actually enjoyed them somewhat....but if you can't take it and you have to use the 16 hour patch, set your alarm for 3 hours (this is how long a patch takes to work) before you would normally get up and put a patch on.
Just remember that you are a drug addict and the things your brain are telling you are just nicotine addiction.
Hope the advice helped!
