"Effexor withdrawal" , Thu 21 Apr 20:30

I am new to this forum. I found it while trying to discover why I am having withdrawal from Effexor XR. Background: Three years taking effexor xr, 300mg per day, reduced recently and gradually over a period of two months to 75 mg per day. I expect to be off it in just a few more days, but I am feeling lousy - headache, dizziness, sensitive to noise, even my eyes seem to make a noise if I turn them too quickly.
Would taking one SJW a day help with the withdrawal? Any ideas?

Thanks.

I sympathize with you. I experienced the same withdrawals twice through. It may help you to open the XR capsule and take half of the kernels. This will take you down to 37.5 mg and will help you wean off it more slowly rather than stopping straight from the 75 mg dosage. Also, it may be easier if your doctor is willing to call you in regular effexor (not XR) and you can break the tablet into halves or quarters and wean even more slowly. Take it slooooooow. It's no fun but you will get through it.

Thanks. I think I have gone through the worst of it already. I am free of the effexor and most of the problems associated with it. As for my doctor, I think its time to find a different one. His idea was to drop to 150 from 300 and then stop.
Cheers.

Oh good. I figured you might be through it by now. Doctors can be so dense sometimes. You wonder if they even attended medical school sometimes. Mine was the same way. I honestly haven't found one that wasn't except one woman who was really compassionate. She stopped practicing.

May I ask why you quit the effexor and what you are taking now? It's been a long road for me and I'm still searching for the right supplement.

Well, I'm hardly 100% yet, but feeling a lot better. I don't quite know how to explain except by saying that if I move my eyes too quickly from one side to the other, I can actually hear what sounds like static electricity or something. I know it doesn't make much sense - its more annoying than anything.
Its been three years, and many changes in my life. I wanted to quit because I think enough has changed that I can make it without the effexor.
I thought about St.John's Wort, which is how I found this site, but I am not sure if that's the way to go yet. I think I will need a bit more time before trying it. For now its Ibuprofan, multivitamin, and omega 3, and reducing caffeine. So far so good. Oh, and a lot of telling myself I am allowed to feel the way I do.
Sorry I haven't left you with much, but I really don't know yet how its going to be. Best wishes.
