Topic Title: SJW and Eyes - specifically viewing monitors
| | "SJW and Eyes - specifically viewing monitors" , Wed 20 Apr 20:41
I have seen the caution about SJW and lights and light sensitivity and cataracts. In addition, is there anything about taking SJW and working on a computer for many hours a day? I have dual monitors and put in about 10-12 hours/day in front of them. I also wear prescription glasses. The point the worries me is that sometimes my eyes feel a bit sore, like looking at a very bright light. I've tried to reduce the brightness and contrast, but any lower and the monitors will not be visible.
Does anyone else have experience or comments along these lines?

Hi, I use dual monitors also, for music applications, but don't spend as much time as you do. I haven't really noticed any problems myself with the SJW but I think commonsense would say take regular breaks anyway if your eyes are sore. It may be from the high frequency flickering of the monitor. I've rarely done this but I know if I spend as much as 4-5 hours with no real break I end up with a headache...

I chuckle at myself after reading your response. Sometimes something is so obvious you don't recognize it until someone else points it out. I agree, 10-12 hours is a bit much. I have interspersed my computer work now with 40-minute walk-around-the-room breaks. Also, I try to put my monitors back as far as they can go so I'm not so close to them. It seems to have improved.
My guess is the first couple of days I started SJW, I really jazzed up and into my work. Then, you start staring really hard at whatever you are focused on, along with emotional reactions. The emotional reactions lead to facial expressions which are tense, along with the hard close up staring at the flickering monitor. Recognizing this, I've implemented a policy to raise my self awareness to remember to sit back, don't stare so hard, and relax the facial expressions.
