"Can it make depression worse?" , Tue 19 Apr 07:45

Hello! I started taking SJW last week due to some bad depression.anxiety caused by insomnia. I seemed to get more and more depressed every day. It was quite scary! I was even thinking suicidal thoughts and felt extremely hopeless. I thought it could be the SJW, so I've stopped. My depression seems to be a bit better, but my anxiety is high now. Any suggestions? Also, does SJW cause or help with insomnia? I've read conflicting reports. I definitely cannot take something that causes insomnia!! Thanks!

SJW does make depression worse to begin with but you have to be patient because it takes about 6-8 weeks to work properly. If you have a good brand it should help after that time. Some brands however, have bad side effects for some people. I recommend you try Kira, because it does reduce anxiety but it will take time to work. I started taking Kira last June and for the first 6 weeks my depression was worse than ever, then it reduced anxiety and depression greatly, so you do need to give it a chance. I tried 2 other brands and they caused me terrible anxiety and depression so I went back to Kira. If you suffer from anxiety I'd advise you to steer clear of hyperforin standerdized brands like Perika and Amoryn as they seem to increase anxiety. You should go for a brand standerdized to hypercin which is more calming and sedating. Kira has never caused me insomnia but both Perika and Amoryn caused insomnia. Again, I think this is because they are hyperforin standerdized brands which do tend to cause insomnia but hypercin standerdized brands to my knowledge do not cause insomnia.

Thanks for the information! It helped clear up the hypericum/hyperforcin questions I had. I've decided to start again and give it a chance. Do you take your pills in the morning, afternoon or evening? I know the starting dose is supposed to be 900mg, but would it make sense for me to start Week 1 with 300mg, week 2 with 600, and then on with 900mg? Thanks for the help. I'm going to check out Kira. Jen

With Kira I started on the 900mg a day dose with no problems. You can buy either 300mg tablets where you take 3 a day at mealtimes or concentrated 900mg tablets which is one a day. I take the one a day concentrated tablet in the morning.

Hi Jen

When I started out I was using 3 pills 3x a day. It was to much so I dropped to 2 2x a day. Now I take one (300mg) in the middle of the afternoon. Works just fine for me.
I think it took close to four to six weeks to notice a differnece but now I feel mostly normal. The anxiety is just gone...thank God. When I first started them I was really sleepy from them, then after a bit they gave me insomnia, so I take it during the day when I'm suposed to be working and not sleeping!! heehee, yeah look at me working while I play on the forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Might be a good idea to play around with your dose to see what works best for you, everyone is so different with metobolic rates, person size and tolerance.

Good luck and don't give up. Gets better and better!!!
