ive been using sjw for 4 years ,i have tried many different brands and have lots of experience with this herb.I have had periods of stopping, but find i feel better using it.my main concern is the lack of sexual desire it gives me(much the same as regular anti depressants)this is a hefty price to pay for feeling ok.does any one share this experience and if so what do you do to cope with this?any luck with any herbs to counter this problem,I know all the ones but has anyone tried them and benefited.also any opinions on sjw and hair loss .

Silas, I too was concerned about sexual side effects of the usual SSRI type meds, that's why I tried SJW. I've been on it for about 8 months now, at first my sex drive was improved somewhat, along with my general mood. Lately though, I seem to be pretty disinterested in sex, which also affects my mood again. So, I went to a Family Practice doc and unloaded on him. I had also been doing some research on low libido and let him know I wanted my testosterone level checked. (I'm 56 yrs old BTW) Turns out, it's 'low normal' but the doc can't say for certain what's normal for me since he doesn't have a previous level to compare to. Anyway, we're now discussing testosterone replacement therapy options. The hormone therapy should also have a signicicant impact on the depression I've been treating with SJW. I'll keep you posted on the results, but if you're like me, look into any options to keep up a more normal sex lofe. Otherwise, life's just too depressing. Good Luck.

thats interesting.the same for me an improvement when first starting then a numbness and total disinterest.ive heard serontogenic drugs (including sjw,5-htp,sam-e)do this,on sjw its a milder version compared to ssris and maois.Im not sure about the mechanism but theres deffinatly a blockage somewhere.my homeopath reckons its like all the energy has gone from my groin up to my head to deal with the depression.Ive read in some parts of europe 5-htp is used for sex offenders (i can see how this works, they just wouldnt care)but Im an active 32 year old and its very frustrating.ive tried many different herbs,im now trying schizandra.im a training naturopath and am always researching.its an awful price to pay for a level mood.anyway let me know how it goes, and good luck

Ginsing is a great sexual booster. Panax Ginsing is good, but if you want to try this, you want a brand of ginsing that has a mix of different kinds of ginseng and a higher dose (there are some weaker brands than others). You can do some internet research on the most effective ginsings combos and places to get them (do this research, because it's just like SJW...there are good and not so good kinds). Just a note, there are types of Ginsing that are a little more expensive, but are REALLY potent and real effective when it comes to sex.

Also, mainting healthy lifestyle (eating right and EXERCISE is very important!). Mixing some fiber in you diet (maybe from a cereal that is high in fiber) can all work to help.

Now, if everything you do still doesn't help, you have a couple other options (other than just live with the negative sexual symptoms you described) and those are A)you might have a mental issue regarding sexual dysfunction (something in your brain/the way you're thinking is preventing you from having healthy sexual experience). Or, B) there is a physical problem, and in this case you've probably heard of the many many drugs you can take for that (viagra, levitra, etc.).

I think more times than others, it has to do with keeping a healthy lifestyle (too much alcohol or other mind altering drugs can certainly cause problems) by excersing and all that, and hopefully with something natural like ginsing (a real good brand), and keeping good diet you can achieve healthy sexual drive once again.

Best Regards, and best of luck!!!

"Forgot to say..." , Fri 8 Apr 08:54

When I mentioned about a mental issue in terms of sexual dysfunction. I forgot to say what in the heck to do about it if that might be the problem. Also, just a side note...and that is - As far as my experience from this (sexual health), it usually is a multiple of things that play a part in sexual health (rest, exercise, diet, etc...like I talked about before).

However, there are things like sexual counseling where maybe theres something in your past that's messing with your brains ability to trigger the good sexual response that you had at one time. Myself, I am 24 year old, but have actually experienced sexual problems in the past (impotence at times). I'm healthy in terms of diet and exercise, but I've done lots of drugs and drank alcohol in execss for 10 years on and off. Now, I'm in a NA (Narcotics Anonoymous) program that is fabulous and has been the difference in me being able to stay clean from drugs and alchol for the past 3 months. A BIG part of the program is the 12 steps (working on myself and working out "mental" blocks and things that I've stuffed inside for a long time).

Within the last three months by staying away from drugs and alcohol (don't smoke either - used to smoke alot), exercising, eating health (even try and throw in fiber cereal - it helps keep things moving through the body if you know what I mean), taking this SJW, and working in my NA program where I'm forced to work on myself (get honest and dig out bull**** I've kept inside from past - as I mentioned earlier), getting relatively decent rest ---- my sexual health has honestly been pretty darn good.

I wish you the best, and if you can't find a cure for your sexual side effects, then please go see a doctor and tell them what you're experiencing (if all the men who have experienced some kind of sexual problems in their life came out and admitted it, I truly believe it would be a HUGE number).

Best Regards,

H.S.H.
