Just thought I'd mention this as I read it somewhere on the net, and after I got a cold sore for the first time a few days ago I tried applying my SJW liquid to the affected area- and it seems to have vanished after one day! Of course it's possible that it was just such a minor sore that it vanished of its own accord (unlikely as I believe when you first get them they are pretty bad) but I now think this remedy may be worth trying...
