"Weight Gain/ Retaining Water" , Sat 2 Apr 07:01

I started taking St John Wort 2 weeks ago and have noticed I have gained about 5 pounds. I haven't eaten any differently and run at the gym every day like I had been before using it, so it leads to believe the weight gain is in some way related to SJW.

Does anyone know if SJW makes you retain water at all or could be making me gain a few pounds?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've been taking SJW for 3 months, and exercise regularly - I have not put on any weight, and have probably lost weight, if anything. I doubt that it is the SJW that is causing the weight gain.

This sounds like a symptom of PMS rather than a side effect of SJW.

The only side effect I've noticed from the SJW was some minor constipation. More liquid in my diet and more fresh fruit has helped that, but I haven't had any weight gain or water retention. My weight has been steady around 175 lbs for a few years and I'm 56 yrs old/young.
