Hi! I'm new to this forum...just found it this morning before crew practice, actually...
I haven't started taking St. John's Wort yet, though. I had a question that I'd like to pose here first...

~~ My back-story... which you can skip if you like - my question for you is in the little paragraph at the end of all this nonsense. :P
~~~~
For about two months now, I've felt like everything has been tinted grey. There was no specific incident that kicked off this feeling, however in the midst of what I'd deemed a 'funk', I had several personal problems that agitated it, including a death in my extended family. I'm sleeping way more, but am even more exaughsted when I'm awake. I can't focus, and I'm just sad all the time. ..well.. sad SOME of the time. I'm apathetic a lot, as well. I've become extremely introverted, going out of my way to avoid talking to people (which is a complete opposite for me.. ordinarily I'm happiest in the company of my friends. 100% extravert) And finally... my school work, in which I usually exel, has fallen off dramatically. It's the feeling of being sucked down in quicksand. I've never felt this upset/apathetic for this long a time span. It's like you never get a break from it to just breathe.
~~ Thus ends the little tale of my last 2 months ~~
Anyways... so it occurred to me this morning that maybe it was a mild form of depression. The actual question I have though is: how long should I wait to see if it fizzles out on its own? It's so easy to give a self-diagnosis saying I'm depressed, and I'd really rather not over-dramatize this if I'm just in a funk. (For personal reasons, going and getting a professional oppinion is out of the question). But the cloud just isn't lifting. Should I wait a given amount of time before trying St. John's Wort, in hopes that this will just lighten up (longer than the 2 months I've already waited?) How long did YOU wait? Any advice/oppinions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm 56 years old and it took me about 40 years to find this site and start on SJW. I wouldn't wait another day, for one reason, it takes a few weeks to really notice a difference if the SJW is going to help you. For me, 2-3 weeks of SJW and I felt noticeably better, after 6+ months, I think I'm as near normal as I'm ever likely to get. Mood, motivation, energy, all improved. I don't know how much time you have left, but one of the symptoms of depression is to just accept your condition or not have the desire to make an effort to change it. Don't waste 40 years hoping you'll get better. Hope SJW works for you.
HI Meh
I waited around 2 months before I gave in and started the SJW. Now I am kicking myself for waiting. It helps. Actually it helps me ALOT. Took about a week and then it wasn't a KABAM thing, it was a very gradual gentle thing. Now I feel ok again. Still some anxiety but at least I don't feel so bleeecchhhh anymore.
Thank you, both. I'll take the advice and go to the store tomorrow.
Seriously - just... thanks.
