There are pathways in the brain leading from the limbic system and basial gangala to the forebrain.THe panic signal is produced by the right amygdala and sent ,by a brain pathway ,to the ventromedial frontal cortex where the panic is felt. Question is this, how does the amygdala know which emotion to generate in responce to incoming stimuli from the thalmus?THe hippocamus must tell the amygdala what to do!Without the hippocamus to filter stimuli ,you become psycotic and paranoid.Dopamine must reach a level at which gateing stops and you become psycotic.Block dopamine receptors and the brain pours out dopamine as it thinks the signal is not getting to the receptors. Why do people with panic overreact to external stimuli.People with OCD are victims of there own internal stimuli. The orbitoil frontal cortex is responsible for attention ,focus and changeing focus .Is the problem here in ocd?Cut the connection between the OFC and the caudate and the OCD signal can no longer get to the OFC.I think the malfunction is in the cells of the caudate.Damage to these cells can produce OCD.Strep throat does this.
