I have been taking SJW since May and it really seemed to be working pretty well. I had read somewhere on this message board that the Perika brand was really good, so two weeks ago I started taking that and I am finding that I am not feeling so good any more. Before that I was using a generic store brand. I even increased my dosage and that didn't help. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello Spikiemom,
Perika is somewhat unusual among SJW products in that it is standardized to a chemical component of SJW called "hyperforin" whereas most other standardized SJW products are standardized to a different chemical component in SJW called "hypericin". There seems to be some debate as to which of the two is the main active ingredient in SJW, whether both are active, or if it just depends on the person. Maybe the hypericin in the first product was what was helping you, and Perika may not be guaranteed to contain the same level of hypericin, since it focuses on hyperforin.
If the first product was working for you, what do you think about going back to it?

Hi H20,
I know that SJW takes awhile to kick in so maybe the Perika needs more time? Is 2 weeks enough time to give it before switching back? I would be willing to go back and give the store brand a try again.

Go back to taking the generic store brand.

Yes, I think that is what I am going to do. I am desperate for this to work since I've already gone the route of the prescription drugs and the side effects are horrendous for me.
