I have had dysthymic disorder for almost two years now. I tried St. John's Wort (GNC Concentrated) for two months, and I have been taking SAM-e and Ginkgo Biloba for a week now, both without results. Should I be doing anything differently, like taking the medication longer or trying something else? Nothing has worked and I've lost hope. SAM-e will cost me about 160$ a month. I'm 17, dont make money, and cant order any products online. I cant find 5-HTP anywhere, and I cant afford SAM-e. Any suggestions?

If it's any help, the SJW formulation you took (GNC Concentrated) is a raw herb prep that is probably worthless in therapeutic terms. The same applies to GNC Fingerprinted.
GNC Standardized would have been the right choice, but I think people should vote with their feet and give GNC a miss. SJW is the cheapest option you have, so if you want to give it another try, look for a brand standardized for hyperforin (not hypericin) on its label.
Without being exclusive, good brands would include Nature's Way (Perika or even its ordinary line), Nature's Plus, Enzymatic Therapy, Nature Made.

Well, you could always give it a little more time. SAM-e is supposed to be quicker acting, maybe 2 weeks max.
If non of these options work, maybe you should go with the prescription pharmaceutical drugs. Don't give up hope, you still have a ton of thing to try!
