Topic Title: SJW for Insomnia not depression
| | "SJW for Insomnia not depression" , Sat 26 Apr 21:56
Hi all. I was prescribed Zoloft by my doctor, not for depression (I'm not depressed) but for chronic insomnia and after taking it for a week I couldn't handle the side effects. I've heard about SJW as an alternative to Zoloft for depression- but do you think it would work as well for insomnia? Just wondering weather to start taking it or not? Thanks.

Hi Sandstorm,
I have had chronic insomnia for some time now and was recently diagnosed with clinical depression. I tried several anti-depressants and suffered severe side-effects. I've been taking SJW for 2.5 weeks now (for the first week at half-doses) and have been sleeping - yay! With sometimes very vibramt dreams that are so weird that I know I must have been asleep. I've had no noticeable side-effects. As far as the depression goes, I'm feeling hopeful that the full effect will kick in sometime in the next month.
So, I recommend trying SJW. And wish you luck!
Ghostcat.

Hi, I've been taking SJW for 20 days now -- and the only decent effect I have had on it is....no more insomnia! I have gone from taking an hour or two to fall asleep (and waking up frequently throughout the night) to falling asleep within minutes and sleeping through until the morning. I am not a SJW veteran or anything by far but I can truly say that it has greatly assisted in helping me sleep. Sometimes a little too much so (I slept through my alarm 2X in the last week). Might be worth a try for your insomnia. Best of luck.

Thanks for the message Tess. I think I'll give it a go then if if worked for you. I read your other post- sorry you're not feeling much better with the SJW. Sounds like something else might work better for you. Have you tried prescription meds? Just an idea because I know they work for some of my friends.

yes, well you see that is the thing....I am really not into taking prescription meds AT ALL. I do suffer from depression but it is not debilitating...most of the time! It is an underlying sort of thing...not a center-stage thing..in my life. I have read enought about them to know that I am not the best candidate for them. Thnks for the suggestion anyway...will you try the SJW for insomnia?
