"Weight Gain and Paxil" , Fri 21 Mar 08:10

Almost 10 years ago, I have severe panic attacks and was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The doctor highly suggested Paxil and she was pretty sure it would work well for me. No mention of weight gain, whatsoever. Indeed, Paxil worked wonders for me (mentally) but I gained weight like you wouldn't believe! I had no idea it was the effect of the Paxil. All I cared about was that I felt
"normal" again. After the panic attacks subsided, the doctors kept me on Paxil for the next 10 years because it kept my migraines at bay. It wasn't until recently that I started reading about the association of Paxil and weight gain. I was taking 40 mg per day and after cutting back to 30 mg per day, I lost about 40 pounds! Of course, I started walking 3-4 times per week after losing the first 20 pounds. I've got another 40 pounds to go and am seriously considering cutting my Paxil down to 20 mg. I've been watching what I eat and have been exercising, but the pounds were just dropping off, even when I wasn't trying. I hope this gives you some hope. Please let me know if you are now losing weight after weaning yourself off of Paxil.

i quit Paxil about 2 months ago, it took me another two months to do it ofcourse. i was on 40 mg too. gained 25 pounds in about 8 months. i started effexor after that, but i am quiting that as well.
i did not observe any weight loss tough. i am just stable now (in terms of weight) although i am trying to lose some weight.
my apetite was enourmously high when i was on Paxil. did you have the same thing or did you gain weight without observing any change in your eating habits?

Yes, it seemed like the better I felt, the more I ate. But I took it as a good thing because when I was depressed and anxious, I hardly ate at all and I got very weak. Now, it definitely seems easier to lose weight now that I'm on a lower dosage of Paxil. I don't think the weight just automatically comes off when your dosage is reduced. However, I am feeling a bit jittery early in the morning but overall, I'm still feeling good. Still working on the other 40 pounds I need to lose :)
