In Germany, SJW is prescribed more often than Prozac, so just because it is herbal, dont think it wont work. It just wont have nearly as many side effects if any - though everyone is different.
It has worked for me - though I have had good and bad days - the bad are not nearly as bad as they were, and the good are much better! I am on week 4 as of today and it seems to be working, though I did expect to be happy all the time. I forgot that everyone has good and bad days whoever they are, I just concentrated on the fact that if I was having a bad day it was because the SJW wasnt working. I know how hard it is, but give it time - like you and just about everyone else here, I wanted an instant miracle cure - there isnt one - though for me sjw has made me feel like my old self, no more horrid thoughts about the future, no more tears, no awful mood swings, though I am still a little tired, I am motivated to do things - but I still have to make myself do things sometimes - doesnt everyone whether they take Sjw or not? Hang in there, it will be worth it, then like me, the roles will reverse and in 2 weeks you will be replying to people just like you are now. Hang in there - we're routing for you...
take care
Jex

I really discounted SJW due to the herbal aspect. I have been mildly depressed for about 3 years. I started on 600mg a day and after a week moved up to 900-- What a great change in my life in the past few weeks, I played around with the dose and found the best for me was one 300mg with each meal. I regret I didn't use this 10 years ago, in hindsight I was realy self medicating with booze and pot, hoping the Depression would go away. I have really been able to put things in much better perspective and priorotize what is important in my life. My depression added to my over-anxiety on many issues and SJW has really helped me to manage both work and my family much better. While my issues are still there and I know they are there, it seems they have been moved back, The analogy I use is that prior to the SJW, there was this huge concrete wall in front of me whcih I couldn't see over and which I was running into, it was leaning on me and making me sad, anxious and scared. The wall is still there however, it's further away, in the distance it's not scary or sad anymore, I'm not "dulled out" or anything, I'm just really able to manage what is important in my life now, and I feel like I know my problems will be there all the time but I can manage them much better. I'm calmer, more focused and not in such a reactive mode, I feel control coming back to me. I highly recommend this to anyone who can relate to what I'm saying. The only side effect I've noticed is a little night sweating, but I'm sleeping much better, It's also cleared up my hemmerhoids and believe it or not I think it;s helped my arthritic knee!

Sarah-

Why not make it a rule to take a tablet each time you eat, by amking it part of your diet, you take away the fact that you have to "remember" to take it, I actually take it out and put it on my plate while I'm preparing food, or I carry it in my pocket, if I'm going out. But do take it- it works

Sarah Jayne,

My answer is that it has for me. It isn't a miracle cure, it will be at least two weeks before you feel any effects. I've been taking it for nearly 18 months and have recently started to reduce the dose, without any ill effects. The reply from David is absolutely spot on. You can do more to help yourself. I was off work for three months and wanted to lay in bed and look at the ceiling, but our dog needed walking, which got me out, then I went to my local pub, where there were lots of people I know for company. (Note: drinking and depression don't mix, so I'm not suggesting that as a universal approach. As an aside, I found no interaction between SJW and alcohol, but a lot of people do.)

Hang in there, it WILL get better. Talk to people, try to look forward.

Best Wishes

Hi Sarah Jayne,
Wow, I thought I was the only one up at this time!
I've been on SJW for about 2 months now and like you I was expecting a feeling of euphoria. I had high expectations but what I realized is that YOU have to help IT help YOU.
Unfortunately there is no miracle cure but what David said in one of his last posting is true. You have to get outside (with or without the kids) and breath in the fresh air. Go for a walk,
go to the gym (if the kids aren't in school, there are gyms that have playrooms.) Sit in the park and feed the ducks. Dump the kids on their dad for a couple of hours borrow a dog and go for a long walk by yourself. Anything!
I know this sounds crazy but when I go for a walk I make sure no one is around then I talk! To no one! BUT I have found that getting what's bugging me out in the open makes my problems seem so much smaller! Think about it. All that angst stuck in a small space (your head) now out in the huge space of the world!
No one is there to tell me what I should or should not do and I realize my troubles aren't as bad as I thought they were when they were all clambouring for attention. I am then able to sort out which problem to deal with first and which ones need to be deleted and sent to the trash can.
I know this sounds crazy but taking the SJW and having a heart to heart talk with ME is helping keep me on the sane side.
Hang in there. You've only just started taking it and I know it feels like it's taking forever but before you know it a couple of months have gone by and the anxiety you're feeling now will have faded some.
Keep us posted on your progress. Everyone here has been in or is in the same situation so you'll get lots of support.
Sorry I've babbled on but...!

Hi Sarah Jayne:

I can definately say that SJW definately works for me, it took a while to start working this time (the 2nd time i've taken it), but now after about six and a half weeks I'm feeling good - my head's clear, I'm feeling confident and I'm able to not focus on the things that 'get to me' and augment my depression....indeed in 4 weeks I'm leaving the UK to go and live abroad for a year or two, something that even a few months ago I could not have even contemplated seriously because of the way I was feeling emotionally.

It just takes time, and even at this stage there are days which are better than others, but again I find that the SJW lets me shrug off these days and be simply more relaxed and pragmatic about things.

I also believe in helping yourself to help yourself (if you get what I mean!) exercise, mental stimulation, social interaction, diet and generally an all-round healthier lifestyle have all played a part in the process....all these little things add up to something that is more than their sum > basically a happier and less depressed person!

Stay positive and let us know if you ever need help!

David
